News Manger: Linking to the most current news post Can't Post
I’d like to be able to have a link on my front page that goes to the newest news post and not the list of news posts when clicked.

In other words I’d like to have a link that says “Our Newest Press Release” when clicked it goes to the most recent news post.

Is there a solution for something like this?

Ok, here’s what I have learned…

If you objective is to link to the most current news story (not the list of headers and links to news stories) your pretty much out of luck because the script physically creates static html documents with a naming convention like this..

News_1.html
News_2.html
News_3.html (current story until the next one is built)

When a new story is created and posted a new html doc is saved into the /publish/ directory. There is no way of linking to the newest story because the html doc name changes every time the new story is created.
If this is wrong and there’s another solution let me know.

I wish there was some kind of includes call to the most current story but I have a gut feeling this script can’t do that.

Hi surge42,

Thanks for posting.

You are exactly right. Pulling in the latest submission from News Manager isn't something that it's setup to do right now.

I know that some users have taken the index page and stripped it down so that they can include it through out the website, but even that will show all of the items in the system.

If you are looking for a little more flexibility with how you can display the news items, it may be worthwhile to take a look at Article Manager which has a lot more options when it comes to publishing files.
