Facing virtually no budget, is there any way one incorporate categories using News Manager, without jumping up to the hulk that is Article Manager?

I really don't "need" AM, just a simple news poster. I've searched high and low for something clean and simple. News Manager's it, but categories would sure be nice.

Hi Brandon,

Thanks for posting Smile

Unfortunately, one thing News Manager doesn't do is support multiple categories. News Manager only supports one news index page which displays every article that has been created. So with News Manager you wouldn't be able to create separate news categories.

News Manager is best used for websites (quite often company websites) that want to have a small news section on their website which includes website/company press releases.

It is possible however to use Article Manager to handle this. Article Manager does have a lot of extra features, but you don’t necessarily need to use all of them. What are the features that Article Manager has that you find that you don’t need? If you could let me know, perhaps I could come up with some suggestions on how you could modify Article Manager to meet your needs.

Thanks Brandon, hope to hear from you soon Smile

Re: [Cliff] Categories [In reply to] Can't Post

Cliff,

Biggest issue is the budgetary issue. Secondary issue is my lack of perl experience (outside of configuring a few less-sophisticated purchased scripts here and there) and my ability to get AM up-to-speed quickly vs. how much easier it would be to get NM up-to-speed.

I love all the AM features there are, but just don't see "needing" them for the foreseeable future.

What if NM were installed into 3-4 directories within my website?

Hi Brandon,

Thanks for the post. :)

The nice thing about our scripts is that they require virtually no experience with perl scripts. Our software is designed in such a way that you don't have to do anything with the source code at all -- it's all done with templates. So, while there's more that you can do with Article Manager vs. News Manager, the basic use of them is almost exactly the same.

As for your workaround -- installing NM into 3-4 directories inside your website, well, that would require 3-4 licenses which would quickly bring you up to the same price as Article Manager anyway.

Let me know if you have any other questions. :)
