uploading files via LM Can't Post
Is it possible to upload a file via LM with a link to that file from the product's page?

For example. I want to have a link available on a finished product page that downloads a PDF file of that product. The person entering the listing must be able to create the link in the text box, which is simple, but then be able to upload the pdf file to the server without using FTP -- sort of how the pics are uploaded.

Possible?? Thanks.

Thanks for posting and welcome to the board!

At this point Listings Manager only setup to let you easily upload images to the server. We have many requests for being able to upload multiple types of files so I am going to add your name to our feature request list with everyone else asking for this as well.

Thanks Ross -- I've used your products in the past and will continue too, I really have enjoyed working with them. One other thing, I see that article manager really has the tools that i'm looking for in a product manager (upload files, categories, etc) so I'm thinking about purchasing it, rearranging the publish templates and going from there -- has that been tried? failed? success?

Thanks for getting back in touch so quickly.

Article Manager is actually a great idea for this sort of idea. It definitely better suited for letting you easily upload many different file types. You can even use the image uploading tool to make it just as easy as Listings Manager but with other files like PDF and doc.

Thanks Ross -- I've been looking at the Article Manager features and I think I'm going to go that direction with this project -- one question, is there a way to add a thumbnail to the product listings? or is it limited to just the photo thats on the product page?

Hi once more Smile.

With Article Manager you’ll be able to upload up to 25 images that can be set to appear in any of your article fields. If you wanted to, you could have a few images appear in the summary section of an article and then a few more appear in the actual content section.

I was wondering if LM has a "hook" which would allow you to run your own script when a listing is published. A blank stub could be provided which would always be called and the developer could place their own code in this.

Does LM have this or is something like this slated for the future?

Thanks for your post. :)

While there's no functionality for this built in, you could run a script (depending on the script) by having something added to the page that appears when a listing is saved. We do this with the Publishcron script in Article Manager -- see details in the second half of this tutorial:

To do this with Listings Manager, what you would want to do is add the link to (or content of) your script into the _listing_saved.html template, after the line that says "Listing has been saved".

Let me know if that works for you -- if you've got a link to a CGI script that you want to run, you could do the same thing that we do with Publishcron -- set it up in an image tag like this:

<img src="/path/to/your/script.cgi" height="0" width="0">

Hi Ross,

I have a client that I used your LM program for. They recently asked if there is a way that they can upload a pdf file (property sellers disclosure) and associate it with a particular listing. I see from the previous posts that this kind of functionality was to be considered and was curious if you now offer a solution.

What we generally recommend is uploading your PDF file independently (Listings Manager can only upload jpgs & gifs itself, although you can easily install a script -- there are hundreds of free ones available on the internet -- that will upload any file you set it to work with), then creating a custom field that you can use to link to the PDF.

Would something like that work for you?

While we don't have any specific scripts to recommend, you should be able to track something down over at www.hotscripts.com. They are one of the biggest scripting indexes on the web so I am sure there will be something there for you.
