rm sign_up won't work Can't Post
Hi,

I've installed the RM_SIGNUP SCRIPT in the proper directories (of Automanager) and I've chmod'd the signup.cgi file and rechecked everything a hundred times. I either get a server timeout or a 404 error whenever I try to use it. What do you think I might be doing wrong? Any ideas? Automanager works GREAT....no problems whatsoever..... but this addon won't work with it. Do I need to change something in the script?

Heya -

Just as an addendum to Donna's post, which version of Realty Manager are you running? The latest version of Realty Manager (2.30) has a new greatly improved filelocking system which unfortunately may be incompatible with the current signup script.

Unsure Thanks Ben,

I think you hit the nail right on the head. After a little tweaking and massaging, I got the script to try and execute. But now I'm getting a message that says; "DB_Lock : Can't create filelock : File exists"

It was a thought, but not a requirement.....I still think the program is AWESOME! I especially like the new WYSIWYG fields.....we're migrating to a new server and I'm rebuilding all the templates for the new site. Got some great ideas by looking at some of your featured sites, too. Love it!!!!! SmileSmileSmile

Glad you're happy with the program! :-)

Just fyi, Ken has updated the script for the new filelocking, and I've tweaked it for some additional functionality, notably a new configuration file, where you can set all the created account information, including if and when it expires, whether or not to hide the listings by default, the maximum number of listings and more.

Hopefully we'll release it shortly. Smile

Does this mean that the signup addon is not compatible with the
current 2.30 version and should not be installed until a patch or
fix is released?

Hi Rick,

Yes, I'm afraid so. But don't worry, it shouldn't be long - the code's been written, and it's just been through round one of code review. After I make a few changes, we'll release it on the forums. :-)

Thanks for the quick work Benjamin, but I can't get it to work on my site.

http://www.currinsrealestate/cgi-bin/rm/exec/signup.cgi

I uploaded to the correct folder, set the file permissions to 755
and I get a page error and put the html files in the templates folder

Should I have to set permissions for the html files as well?

No luck, hey?

The html files just need read permissions, so it's most likely that when you uploaded them they'll automatically have that... still, it's worth checking out. Are you on a Windows or Unix server? On Unix, you'll need 644 permissions - same for the signup.ini file. What's the error message you're getting?

One other thing to check - FTP into your server and open up one of the other scripts in your exec directory, and take a look at the path to Perl on the very first line. Compare that with the line on the signup script. They should be same.

If they are, could I possibly get FTP access to your server to take a look? (I've run out of ideas! :-) If you fill in a support request here, with "Attention Ben" in the comments section, I'll look at that right away.

OK Benjamin! It works now thanks for your help.

Now the next question. Is it possible to add other fields,
or maybe a comments field that would populate the "notes"
section in the user's record. This would be very useful to allow
the user to input the information reagrding sending an invoice to
them.

I anticipate using this on one of my sites later on that would allow
any realtor to enter their house rentals from the web and just signup
online and start receiving an invioce.

Or am I rushing the process here? Also, while I'm dreaming - how about
an automatically generated email to the Administrator that a new user
has signed up on the site?

Hey, I figured out the answer to my own questions. I can just create an html form
that gathers the user's billing information and sends to my email through form
mail THEN have them click on that page and go to the realty manager signup page - that way I get the
info, comes to my email, then they register for the listings entry. I send them an invoice. Ha!

OK, here goes. Everything is now set up and running smoothly.
The signup links to the rm.cgi page for login. BUT, the account is not activated.

I thought that if I set the siginup.ini codes to allow the user to be created,
that they could start using the data entry right way. I'm getting a message
that the account has not been activated. How do I activate it? It seems OK when
I look at in the admin section.

My goal is to have potential clients go online, input their billing info into a cgi form that
goes to my email, then they would go to the user registration page, then be ready to log
in as the new user and start entering their data. Is this possible?

Ah! I'm very glad to hear the script is all working now.

Concerning the account status, yes, you can set it up so that the accounts are automatically 'switched on'. To do this, open up your signup.ini file, and change the value of the "access_level" setting to "2". By default, it's set to "1", which means that although the account is created, the person isn't allowed to actually log in until an administrator changes the account status.

I made a judgement call with the initial setup values, but perhaps it might be best to set the default value to "2" by default... what do you think?

Thanks Ben,

I don't think it matters what you set the default - as long as the admin knows how to change it.

Others may want to preview their listings before they are posted, the business model I'm working on
would allow the user to post right away and I guess put the burden on me for supervision. I think it will be up to the way the particular site is structured.

Hi Rick,

You're probably right, I just wanted it to be as preconfigured as possible.

The reason I'm posting is because there was a small glitch with the script - the 'hide_users_listing' wasn't actually hiding users listing. Oops. I've reposted the fixed code. You can download it here.
