In Reply To
they are automatically forwarded to a script that allows them to sign up. I didn't use the free signup script offered by interactivetools because it's horribly difficult to customize. I wrote this script myself so that I could customize fields such as automatically limiting them to 1 ad and setting the expiration date to either 90 days or 1 year depending on the ad they choose. It also automatically logs them in so they can post immediately. I also get their ip address and a copy of a customized signup letter that is automatically emailed to them with an automatic login link Smile (talk about automated! I love perl!).

Dear Scott

I want to do on the same thing on my site, as you do with your script, can I get your help for this issue? Smile, also I want to know if some one memorize the location of the signup page (to place a new add), once he pay throught 2checkout or paypal. Then he try to signup again for another add by going directly to the signup page without passing by the paiment pages, what will hapen? I hope he will be forced to pass by the payment page again before he place his add.

Thank you for your help

Maher

Re: [maher] Signup script questions [In reply to] Can't Post

Maher,

There's no built in way to stop someone from going directly to the adduser.cgi script, nor is there a way built in to stop anyone from doing the same with the signup script provided by Interactivetools. You could possibly do it by checking the referring page, but that could have problems in itself for people that block that kind of thing (like me).

In the 2 years that I owned my auto sites (I sold them so I don't own them anymore), the scenario you have outlined only happened once. Good thing was, I got an email when the offender signed up. I nuked his ad immediately and I blocked him from my site via his IP address.

I can help you if you'd like, just send me a PM through this board and I'll see what I can do Smile

Hi Maher.

Thanks for posing!

One thing you can try is having the signup page load into a frame. While a visitor would still be able to view the file path in the page’s source code, it wouldn’t be right in the URL and there would be an extra step needed to bookmark the page.

I really like Scott’s suggestion of checking the refering page. That to me sounds like the best idea, however, not being a programmer myself, I am not quite sure how to get that setup.

Since Scott had rebuilt this script from scratch, perhaps his familiarity with the way it’s coded would help in adding that functionality. If anyone has any suggestions or examples of this in action I would be very interested in taking a look Smile.
