Password retrieval -- free script Can't Post
Attached is a simple password retrieval script written in php. I was surprised there had not been one created. Feel free to use it and let me know if you have any questions.

I guess I should add this has not been tested with the latest update of Listings Manager. It should still work unless the format of the user.dat.cgi has recently changed.

I have had quite of few emails on this script wanting to know how it works.

Here is a brief overview of the script:

It's a simple form which simply asks the user to enter his or her email address. The script will search the user.dat.cgi for the matching email address. If a match is found it will send the following email to the user.

Below is your account information -- please save this email

Username: my_username
Passord: my_password

Thanks,
YourSite.com

**Known issue --

1. If you user has multiple accounts using the same email address; it will only send the password to the first match.

Finally got around to trying this password retrieval script. I think I'm ready to go live with my new version of my website, powered with Listings Manager after I get this working.

I'm not familiar with php files at all. Do they need to be setup any different then .html files? Perhaps in a similar fashion to how cgi works?

I cannot get this script working.

Showme if you read this and have time to reply, I would be most greatful.

Where does the php file reside? In the cgi-bin somewhere or in the root directory for
the site?

I tired to download the PHP file and it will not work. Anyone else have this problem? This script will work great with my site!

Be default apache will not parse php in your cgi-bin directory. It can be done but you will need to modify your aliases in you httpd.conf file.

This would be a great script if I could get it to work. It's prob my server rejecting it.

I have it going to the correct path. I have the CHMOD set to 755 also. Is the CHMOD set correct?

This message is for everyone who is having problems.

Now I personally ran into two major problems while trying to install this script.

1. I was getting warning messages about trying to locate my user.dat.cgi file. This was because i had the path to the file as a local path /am/data/user.dat.cgi, when I changed the path to absolute path /home/otownau/public_html/am/data/user.dat.cgi the problem was solved. So if you are getting some sort of warning message more than likely you have the wrong path to your cgi file.

2. This is probably where most people are having problems. If you keep getting this message "Sorry, we were unable to locate an account with the specified email address.", the script is working properly it is just looking in the wrong place for the email address.

Step 1: Locate this line of code "if($email == "$listingdata[19]"){" in password.php
Step 2: Change the number 19 inside the brackets [] to the number your email field is. The easiest way to this number is to open up user.dat.cgi in notepad and count spaces in between the ¡'s. That is the number you will place instead of 19. The number 19 just represented where showme's email data was stored in his user.dat.cgi file.

Example: This is from my user.dat.cgi yours will look different.

999¡OtownAutos¡username¡password¡4¡6¡1¡1999¡6¡1¡2000¡20000601¡1¡0¡0¡1¡1¡1¡otownautos.php¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡quick97@aol.com¡¡¡¡

Skip 999 "the user number" so starting with OtownAutos until i get to the email quick97@aol.com would be 35 spaces between ¡'s. So my line of code would be "if($email == "$listingdata[35]"){"

The ¡ is just a divider for the information, so this number is very specific to your own user.dat.cgi and the script will not function properly until you change this number to reflect where to look for your email addresses. If you don't understand the process or are having trouble just start at number 19 and increase the number by one while keep testing until you find the number for your email field. Once you have the correct number the script should function properly it did for me.

Hope I didn't confuse too many of you if you still get errors let me know and I will try to help you work them out

How did you integrate RM into onlinerealtysales.com?

Are you using MYSQL? How are you importing data dynamically

into your foreclosure database?

I am not actually sure what happened to the script that showme had posted. It wasn’t something we put together so we don’t have a lot of control over it.

I think the best thing to do would be just send showme a private message and ask if there are any copies of the script lying around.

That definitely looks like a custom script he created himself so it isn't something that I have to send out.

What you could do is have a look through http://www.hotscripts.com to see if they have something similar.
