Disappearing images in homepage index (signup.cgi) Can't Post

I just installed the Signup Add-on script that Chet sent me yesterday and I'm experiencing a problem. Upon sign up of a new user, all the images in my homepage_index are disappearing (broken links). If I erase that entry, or re-publish my Homepage Index, the images come back.

Not sure what to do about this. It's very consistent in behaving like this. (I'm in test mode.) The signup.cgi script is doing something it shouldn't!

I've also discovered that the script only likes to work with (i.e. create changes in) .html files, so I had to change the default publish extension from .htm to .html to keep that script happy. Can you comment on this too?

Thanks, Ethan

Re: [Ethan] Disappearing images in homepage index (signup.cgi) [In reply to] Can't Post

After lots of testing, I've isolated the "disappearing images" problem to this:

The signup.cgi script, upon adding a new user, causes a new index of homepages to be published and for some reason drops the extensions of the photos in the URLs. Thus the photos "disappear". However, I have "fixed" the problem by simply turning off auto publishing of that index by changing "yes" to "no" for the question: "Publish index of homepages?" under Publish Settings in the Setup Options area.

Then after the new user has been "approved", and I allow their listing to be unhidden and displayed, I can at that time manually publish the homepage index to include their home page. Manual publishing works fine of course and does not trash the photo URL.

In summary, the bug appears to be coming from the signup.cgi script as it executes, and the workaround described above is acceptable, since in my case I'll be in the user's account anyway to approve the new listing. Re-publishing the homepage index is just an additional step. Smile

Thanks for reading this.

Ethan (becoming more of a techie every day....scarey!)

PS I'd really like to solve the bug issue in Scott's script, the adduser.dat.cgi script, which has more features. This script will not write to the user.dat.cgi file, which results in an invalid login, as the new user is not written to file. Alas, no one responded to my forum posting on this one, and I don't have the skills to pursue it any further. If someone can help it would be great!Frown

Hi Ethan.

Thanks for the update!

I must admit that I am not exactly sure what's happening there with your signup script but I am glad to hear you got a workaround going. In regards to Scott's script, I am not really sure which one you are refering to but you could always try to send Scott a private message to see if he can help.

That is probably going to be the best solution as we aren't really setup to support 3rd party scripts or add-ons like this.

Keep me up to date with you are making out Smile.
