Anyone having problems with ImageMagick 5.5.7 Can't Post
My host has recently upgraded ImageMagick to v 6xxx - this caused the upload photos in Listing Manager to fail. So, back to an earlier version.

They now use ImageMagick 5.5.7 - but OCCASIONALLY my client is unable to upload photos.

Has anyone else met a similar problem ?

I haven’t actually heard of this happening to anyone else but if anyone reading has more info for us, it would be great to hear from you Smile.

There is NO problem with ImageMagick 5.5.7. The problem was rather unusual and is added here as a cautionary tale when moving servers.

BACKGROUND: My hosted Listing Manager (LM) site has been live for two years. Initially, there was a temporary URL to access the LM Admin Manager. This URL was replaced after some weeks.

MOVED: December 2006, my host site moved Listing Manager (LM) from server A to server B - leaving LM on server A in case the move encountered problems.

PROBLEM: There were no problems and my clients entered their property data as usual. Weeks passed - and suddenly LM ceased accepting text and photos.

Much investigation by the LM Support Team. No problem found. We began to suspect some external (not LM) problem - browser, clients computer, whatever. Part of the external checks involved checking the URLs to access LM Admin - and that revealed to cause.

CAUSE: The client had started to use the OLD out-of-date URL which pointed to the OLD no-longer-used LM on the OLD server - an LM which ran OK but no longer accepted data.

MESSAGE: Delete old and unused LM's and URLs after moving sites.

MOVED: December 2006 - is it that time already? LOL - I’m still dating 05...

It’s not unusual for things to resolve at old servers, especially just following a move. The DNS of a site is called by IP Address - so if the site was still up and running, the ISP’s DNS records might not auto update .

Some hosts are a little untidy with their house keeping - so it might be a good idea to ensure that he domain has also been deleted from the previous server’s DNS. This should help the whole DNS records update quickly.

You are bang on with deleting LM after a move. When we are moving things around - we also make local back ups too. Total disaster recovery.

We also make weekly manual back ups - to at least 2 local machines of the full contents of listman. Done on Sunday’s to reduce load on the server.

Helps me to sleep...

Thanks for the advice and info - very much appreciated.
I wonder if I can ask some advice.

I run about 20 LM sites at NetNation in Vancouver. They backup for their own use (server crash) but have no means (they say) of my getting backups to an external server.

Now, like you, I want to have total backup to an external server. The thought of FTP'ing (using Fetch) 20 complete websites of 1000+ properties each with 10 photos is not one I relish.
Is their a way of automating this process weekly.

Might be best if I opened another thread, perhaps, as I am sure others would wish to join this discussion and possible solutions.

Hi Nick

It would be unusual for a host to not back up...tis in their own interests...just to put your mind at rest.

I had a quick look at NetNation and although their offerings seem pretty good - I don't think you can back up to your local machines without using FTP.

NetNation might do it for you - for a fee and make the back-ups available - zipped up to download using Fetch. Still going to be a large chunk....

We run our own servers - so although we have auto back ups running - I also make a full copy of all apps like LM that create their own content. Service to customers etc...

I would consider the costs and where you can pass these downstream to your clients. But I would also make your own back ups when you know there is to be any major upgrades or moves within the host machines. Or if you are considering moving.

Alternatively - watching your data transfer - download 1 site per day - whilst sipping hot coffee...

Hope this helps a bit....tis the short version of a very long story...
