agent expiration Can't Post

I have a client that is wanting a realty site but wants to be able to have the agents purchase ad space from him. He's OK with adding agents, but he was looking to see if their ads could expire rather than be removed. I haven't seen anything here that suggests this might be possible, but I'd prefer to ask before I end up opting for a classified ad software.

Hi sperks!

Thanks for your post. :)

At the moment, there's no automatic expiration for articles. There's expiration for users, however.

One other thing you might look into is the ability to only show listings that have been created or updated within the last X number of days. So while the listings would still be live in the database, they wouldn't show up on any search with that option set.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. :)

With that statement you might have earned yourselves another $300 as it's the expiration of users that I'm most interested in... can tell me more or send me in the right direction? Does the users listing disappear when a user's account expires? I'm very excited to here this. :)

Hi sperks!

All that happens when a users account expires is that they can no longer log in and modify their listings. Their old listings are still active as it doesn't affect the listing database at all. But, once a users account has expired, you can go and remove all of their old listings and they won't be able to log back in to make any more changes.

That said, used in conjunction with the ability to only show listings that were created within the last X number of days, you may be able to create quite a nice little expiration workaround. :)

For more details, take a look at the User Manager in the online demo here:

Hope this helps. :)

Thanks.

I'm trying to work out the rationale for the expiration if the listings and homepage don't expire too. Is this something that is in the works for a future version or is there rationale for leaving it this way? I'm looking for an explanation for my client when he asks why not. I appreciate the idea for the set time frame trick btw which I will consider using if my client wants the listings to disappear based on time rather than account expiration.

Thanks again,

Steve

The link for the expiration demo appears to be broken. Is that still floating around someplace where I can check it out?

Hi.

Yeah, it looks like the demos were switched to one of our other servers. That will happen from time to time :).

Try this link instead:

http://demo2.interactivetools.com/setup.cgi?demo=listman_demo_generic

You can always start up a demo from our main website too. Those links will always be kept up to date.

Thanks!
