Section list reverts to default after each edit Can't Post

Hi,

Could you please advise how I stop the default listings from returning each time I edit a field? I removed almost all the initial fields as my usage for the program is primarily for accommodation rather than realty, I created new fields as required, however if I go into section editor and edit the listings section by choosing to modiffy a field I find that after saving the change the list of fields displayed has somehow reverted back to the supplied default list, I then have to either save details and re-enter the listings before I can edit another field or refresh the browser page which then manages to display the correct new list.

The browser being used is IE8, any help inovercoming this frustrating issue would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Hi there.

Thanks for posting!

That is definitely an odd situation. My first thought here is goign to be that the problem is permissions based. Could you double check that your /data/schema/ folder has read/write/modify or 777 permissions. Same thing with all the files in it.

If that doesn't get you going, I'll need to take a closer look for you so email consulting@interactivetools.com with FTP details to your server and a link to this post.

I am pretty sure this won't be anything major so we'll get it all going again pretty quick. Keep me up to date :).

Re: [ross] Section list reverts to default after each edit [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Ross,

Thanks for the prompt response.

I have checked the permissions as suggested and all were set correctly except a new section I had created, I amended that one but still had the same issue, I suspect that it is an IE8 issue rather than a program issue as the first time I revisited the admin section after closing IE8 fully which would clear the cache I thought everything was working fine as I was now seeing my amended list not the default one, after editing a field and saving the changes I was still seeing my new list, however I then removed a few fields and then went to edit a field, saved the changes and was then presented with the field list complete with the fields which I had previously removed. I then tried the same thing using firefox and everything worked fine, so I suspect that the issue is being caused by some caching mechanism within ie8 (perhaps this is related to their claims of much faster browsing).

The other anomaly is that if I add a field it doesnt appear in the list as again it simply displays the list as it was the first time I view the list after clearing the cache unless I force a page refresh.

ie;

1) clear cache and visit section editor and view listing fields, - all displays fine Smile

2) Remove field - field disappears from list - all seems fine Smile

3) Edit a field and save change - Old list prior to field removal displays (not right) Pirate

4) Force browser refresh - correct list appears without the previously removed field Smile

Now the bit I dont understand

5) Edit a field and save changes - Old list prior to field removal appears again Pirate

I would assume that having done a forced refresh in step 4 that that version of the page would now be the version cached by IE8 yet after step 5 I get the field listing as it was in step 1

6) Force Browser refresh - get correct list Smile

7) Add new field - Get old list as at (1) again complete with field which was deleted in step 2 do not see the newly created field unless I force a browser refresh Pirate

For now I can use firefox for editing but if this is an IE8 compatibility issue I suspect it is going to confuse a lot of people when setting up their listing fields. I would assume you can test this on your own test setup using IE8, if however you need access to my install just let me know but I really dont think it is a program or installation issue due to everything working fine in Firefox.

Hope this helps.

Hi.

Ran through that list and haven't been able to reproduce the results. I am thinking it might still be a caching issue but if you could send me those FTP details to consulting@interactivetools.com I'll do some testing right on your server.

Let me know :).

Could this issue be related to one that sounds familier but apparently using ie7 here?

http://www.interactivetools.com/iforum/Products_C2/Instant_Website%3A_Realty/Listings/Auto_F37/CMS_glitches_and_error_message_P70856/

If so, given that it was almost a month ago, how was the issue resolved?

Hi there.

That defintiely sounds like the same thing. I am still looking into this one for you through the support request you sent in.

I actually think now that the problem you were having with the Listings section never re-naming could be related to the same thing.

We have an email going back and forth and I think that might be the best place to keep things going for the time being. I'll post back here when we figure it all out.
