Joining Tables and Linking Fields Can't Post

I have been tinkering with Instant Realty. I am new to PHP and MySQL but I am used to HTML, ASP.NET and SQL Server and I have a few questions that I would like some help with.

In planning my site (on paper), I have structured my realty website to have several tables that have one-to-many relations to save on duplication of data as I have several types of listings with some common elements. How do you go about setting up related tables/sections in Instant Realty? The types are residential, commercial and land.

I want to have a table that acts as a holder for options for some of the fields in the main listings table and is editable by users with the right level of access. For example, the list of suburbs would be in a separate table but would be used by the listings table to supply the options to a dropdown box or listbox. How could I achieve that in Instant Realty?

I want to also have several different levels of editing ability that I can assign to members of my website. Any assistance is welcome. Thanks.

Hi there.

Thanks for posting!

I think your first two questions are sort of similar. You want to enter some information in one table but use it to create drop down menus or something like that in a different table. For that, there is a built in option which will let you get it going. You won't need to do any SQL commands or anything like that. I'll show you once you get started :).

What kind of access levels did you want to setup? There are a few already in the program so there are definitely going to be some options right out of the box.

Let me know what you think and we'll go from there. Thanks!

Smile Thanks for responding Ross. (I had been feeling a little abandoned but you've restored my faith.) What I'm trying to do is have two basic types of users. One that can manage listings they put up and another than can manage their listings, and the listings of their set of users, as well as the users belonging to their group. Sort of like a supervisory role. I know that it should be simple enough but I'm getting a bit lost with the terms used. Not that they're bad but it takes a little getting used to. Anyway, I will continue my tinkering. My most recent wish now is for a fairly up-to-date (not necessarily the lastest) PDF version of the manual so that I can read it offline but that's just me. Thanks again.

Hi there.

Thanks for getting back in touch!

The most important thing here is that we are going to be here every step of the way so don't hesitate to post any questions you have :).

I definitely suggest trying to map everything out on a piece of paper or something like that before trying to set it all up in CMS Builder. I do that with big projects too and it really helps.

Either way, keep me up to date :).
