Best way to customise admin section Can't Post

What's the best way to customise the agents' area of the website? I don't want them being able to edit other agents' listings or information or messing with anything in the admin area. I want to create a custom layout for what is requested and what is saved. Is there a recommended course of action? Thanks.

Hi there.

Thanks for posting!

I am curious what you mean by customize the layout of your agents area. The way all our Instant Websites are setup, you can create a basic account for each agent and when they log in with them, they only see their own listings and can only modify their own details. Had you seen that part? Try creating one of the basic accounts and let me know what you think :).

With the part about customizing the layout for what is request and what is saved, I'll need some more details on what you mean. I don't quite understand what you are aiming for on that part.

Thanks!

Re: [ross] Best way to customise admin section [In reply to] Can't Post

I have a unique situation in that the site will service several agencies. Each agency has several agents. I want to have an access code for each agency to manage/edit any of their agents' listings. I want the agents to be able to edit only their listings but I want the agency to be able to add, edit or delete their agents and their agents' data and listings.

Also, I want to be able to input data into several sections at a time. For example, I have a meta-data table that has fields that apply to all listings. I want to fill this information in while adding listings of different types such as residential, commercial or land or even do it in a two step process.

I hope that this can help to explain what I'm thinking. I am considering doing a custom page/form that submits the data to the MySQL tables directly. Would you be able to offer any advice on how to go about doing any of this stuff? Thanks again, Ross.

Hi there.

Thanks for all the extra details!

It definitely looks like we are going to be getting into some custom work on this one so I am thinking we might want to move into email. Could you send a list of all your requirements to consulting@interactivetools.com

We can go over it all in much more detail there. Thanks!

My client has described the admin area as unattractive. How can I spruce it up?

Pardon my rush but I have a few other questions again about the admin area.

What if I want only certain fields to show up in the Admin area for the endusers and with complex validation and direction? What if I want to have a single entry point which is not a menu but a page that gives pointers and also makes decisions on where to send the user for the next step? While the admin area is basically functional, there is so much more that I need to do besides entering text and pictures.

I know that your CMS was designed to accommodate even those of us who are not coders but for those that want to add a bit of code, how do we do that short of redesigning a whole back-end to channel/streamline the data entry process the way we might want it? Is there any way that you would expect this type of thing to be done with the CMS/Instant Realty as it is structured now?

For example, I don't need the users to see things like the created date and the created usernum or, even if they have to see it, to have it laid out differently. Given less prominence, you know? I want to format the way the date fields are presented, give different intervals, like 15 minute increments in a minute field. I want to put code in between the items to direct the user to the next appropriate items on the page. Is the separator bar my only option in doing this?

I hope you can understand what I'm trying to ask and I would really appreciate a reply ASAP. Please. Thanks.

Hi there,

Modifying the admin section isn't something we really support, as that's a much more advanced option available. You can definitely make changes (the admin menu php files are located in cmsAdmin\lib\menus, and the CSS is located in cmsAdmin\css) but make sure you make a backup first, as modifying these files can break things.

For the other changes you mentioned, I'd probably recommend contacting our consulting department. You can reach them directly at consulting@interactivetools.com. :)
