Probelm w/ document's URL Can't Post
Hi,

Sorry for these problems...

I created a Document Group and three pages of document, under

http://intranet.abc.com/elearn/dox/

But when I go to the above URL

The hyperlinks generated at the index (left window) point to

http://intranet.abc.com/elearn/templates/doc_page1.html

http://intranet.abc.com/elearn/templates/doc_page2.html

http://intranet.abc.com/elearn/templates/doc_page3.html

Btw, all the DocBuilder files are under

http://intranet.abc.com/elearn (/data, /exec, /tempates..)

Can I put the dox outside the above directories? Will I run into other URL linking problems?

i.e. http://intranet.abc.com/doc

Please help...

Hi Chih,

No worries! :-)

You can actually define each document group to publish anywhere you like. Just so long as you can find the location through the "Browse" button when defining the location, that will work fine. DocBuilder automatically updates all paths within each document group so that they all correctly link to one another.

It's actually a good idea to specify the document roots for each of the document groups to be somewhere *other* than where DocBuilder is installed. That keeps your program files and created files nice and distinct - no danger of confusing the two!

Hi, Ben:

I am sorry that I didn't make my points clear..
Since I created the Document Group in:

http://intranet.abc.com/elearn/dox/

DocBuilder ceated the documents in here:
http://intranet.abc.com/elearn/templates/doc_page1.html

All my pages can't be found due to the URL /dox/ -> /templates/ was generated by mistake.

How or where did I do wrong in the configurations?

Hi Chih! :-)

You might want to check your paths for the document group. Try this:

- click on the "Document Groups" link at the top of your interface,
- click "modify", and take a look at the publish directory. Double-check it's specifying your /dox directory, not the /templates directory instead. (I'd just use the "Browse" button to make sure).

The way DocBuilder works is that whatever directory is specified in that field, is where the documents for that document group will be created.

If there are files created in your /templates directory, what probably happened was that the path was briefly set to point to the /templates directory, and those are some residual files you see there. Try loading up your /dox/index.html file in your browser - you should find everything's working fine!
