unknown placeholder in Cat List . . . Can't Post
Hey Everyone

A user just called this to our attention; not sure how long this has been an issue.

On the above page, note that the title urls say: 'unknown placeholder'

I know a while back we assigned a new, separate template to this category. But not sure how that could be related.

Any ideas? Thanks much.

Hi Jim!

When you created the new template for this category, I'm assuming you setup a new publish rule? It looks like you changed the placeholder in the article pages publish rule creating this file.

There are two ways to fix it:

If you only have one copy of the articles in this category being created, just change the placeholder back -- find your Article Page publish rule for this category, and set the placeholder to articlePage and republish.

If you have the articles in this category being published by multiple publish rules, you'll need to update the category template. The placeholder "$published.articlePage.url$" will no longer be valid, you'll need to change the "articlePage" part of that to whatever placeholder you've set in the publish rule I mentioned above.

Give one of those options a try and let me know how it works. :)

Sorry, I gave you some bad information.

Actually what happened is this:

For an existing sub-category, we created & assigned a new 'article' template. We didn't make any changes to the category settings.

The articles are okay.
The placeholder link errors are on the category page.

Thanks again.
(After all these years, I'm still a 'placeholder' novice)

Hi Jim!

Yep, that's what I expected -- it's the Article publish rule causing the issue. Pop into it and change the placeholder back to the default articlePage, and re-publish your category lists and it should fix it.

What's happening is that your category index templates have the default "articlePage" placeholder in them... but the articles in question have no page generated with the articlePage placeholder, so there's nothing for those indexes to link to. Try switching the placeholder over, republish your category indexes & article pages, and it should fix it right up. :)
