"combining" two topics on one category page? Can't Post

Not sure if I'll be following the "exact" tutorial for the featured categories - but I had an alternate idea if this works instead.

I was thinking of creating the "featured" categories (and having them live as their own categories).

However - in case some might not have very many other featured articles (i.e., since they're new), I would like to include headlines from the other regular topic.

i.e.,

Featured Business:
Headline 1
Headline 2
Headline 3
No more headlines available...

See the most recent headlines in our regular business topic:

Headline 1
Headline 2
Headline 3
Headline 4
Headline 5
etc.

Is there a fairly simple way (if statement perhaps, or include?) to include the headlines like that from the standard topic?

Hi Amber,

You definitely could, but you'd have to hardcode each category page and just do an include that specified the exact file you were including.

Otherwise, you'd have to come up with a way to tell one category what it's "sister" category is. Perhaps through an additional field in the category editor?

Hi Donna,

I wouldn't have a problem hardcoding it if necessary.

i.e,. Business will always be combined into Featured business....

Computer Tips will always be combined into Featured Computers & Technology.

Linking them isn't a problem in that respect, it's filling in the "unfeatured" articles I need.

Could we simply do a headlines - i.e., category breadcrumbs?

I think I asked something similar to what I'm thinking here...

Assuming I'm in the "Featured Business" category, and I'm adding the additional "free" busines headlines.. would this work?

<!--#include virtual="/business/include_categoryHeadlines.shtml" -->

Amber

PS - yes, I'm going to be making templates for each category.

Hi Amber,

Yep, that's exactly what I had in mind. :) Try that include and let me know if that's what you're looking for!
