Upgrade Help Can't Post

Greetings,

I am preparing to upgrade an old installation (1.30) to 1.41, then to version 2.15. The old installation has been working since 2004, but our users want the new features. We want to perform the upgrade on a development server before trying to do this in production. We decided to test the version on our development server, and discovered it was not functioning, so I have to get it working before we can proceed.

Working with the server admin, we established PERL was located in D:\Perl\bin\perl.exe .

The setup.dat.cgi file shows the following: #!G:\Perl\bin\perl.exe

Is this the problem? And can I safely edit the file in notepad to correct the problem?

Thanks for any help!

David

Re: [blanddw] Upgrade Help [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi there,

The files in the /data/ directory are not actual CGI files (the extension is to keep them from being read in the browser) and are just internal files that Article Manager uses. They do not have to have a correct shebang line. In general, you'll never want to modify the files in the /data/ directory, only Article Manager should modify those.

However, the .cgi files in the /exec/ directory (the admin & search.cgi specifically) do need to have a correct shebang. In general, Windows servers are setup to not need anything changed there, but it won't hurt anything to pop in and try. Just make sure you keep a backup. :)

If you're still having trouble getting it running, feel free to give me more details about what happens when you run it, we can probably help you troubleshoot that. :)
