Setting up article lists within a menu Can't Post

I have just started using Article Manager 2.1, previously was using Article Manager. I would like to have the same look and feel in Article Manager 2.1 that I had in Article Manager. Meaning I would like a list of articles on the left hand side and only one article displayed on the right hand side. I keep running into errors with unknown placeholder when I try and combine a list of article titles within a menu template.

Can I create a template of article titles and not categories for use as a menu template?

Can I create template that combines article titles and categories for use as a menu template?

Where can I find help on the predefined placeholder that Article Manager 2.1 uses in their templates?

Hi Bruce!

Have you tried using the upgrade tool? This will import the Article Manager 1 articles & templates into the Article Manager 2 template system. This should also allow the article titles to integrate with the menu (definitely do-able, just requires a few different publish rules working together. The upgrade process should do this for you.)

Re: [Donna] Setting up article lists within a menu [In reply to] Can't Post

We were told that we would need to upgrade to a specific version of Article Manager, I believe it was version 1.4 in order to use the upgrade tools. My boss decided not to go that route.

So, I'm left to figure this out for myself. I have managed to create a new rule and template that displays the list of articles on the left hand side and the article I select on the right hand side.

What I can't figure out is how to create a page that would serve as the starting point for each category. I don't want the page to have a list of article summaries but one article. I have multiple categories and I would like to have one rule and one template to accomplish this.

Do you have any examples of how tio accomplish this?

Hi Bruce,

I'm a little confused -- you mentioned that you were already using Article Manager 2.1?

To get your data from your old installation, you would need to use the import tool, otherwise none of your articles will make it over.

Can you give me more details about what you'd like to show up on the main category page? Would it just be the first article in your category, or something else?

Donna,

One thing I forgot to mention, I have to recreate all the articles from scratch in version 2.1.

You are correct, we would like to have either the first article in the category or be able to point to a specific article in the category.

Thanks Bruce

Re: [brucedt] Setting up article lists within a menu [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Bruce,

Ok, that's easy enough. To have the first article in the category show up, simply modify the categoryIndex.html template so that the content field appears instead of the summary. (You can also remove the Prev/Next buttons here if you don't want to use them.) Then, change the Category Index publish rule to only show 1-1.

This will automatically show only the first article in any given category. You can modify the template as much as you want to get the exact look you're going for, but the main thing will be putting the content field on there instead. :)
