I had a similar issue, one copy but into a number of seperate languages. My method was to use a programe called Translingo. This is mostly free to use, although some the translation engines may charge a fee, but there are still plenty to select which are no charge. All you do is to upload the Translingo programme to your cgi-bin directory, use the wizard to select the languages and translation engines you want to use, depending on the language there are a number offered and then paste in the system code into you home page just below the body tag. The final step is to place some idents, I have used some small flags, to let the visitor select the language. So when the visitor clicks on a flag for Portuguese or German I'm assuming that English is the site default language, then Translingo dynamically gets and displays your AM page in either Portuguese or German. No need for seperate translations. No seperate pages made for translated articles. As with all translations done this way there is a bit of error due to words being translated as is. To get back to your English home page, you will need to have a button which brings the visitor back to that page. You find Translingo here Hope this helps.
