Moving to new server and upgrading? Can't Post

I am moving my AM1 site to a new server. I would also like to upgrade to AM2. Any thoughts about doing this? Also, can I still download version 1?

My first thought was to move the v1 files to the new server then upgrade. This would get the new server up right away and give me a little time to play with v2.

Thoughts?

Hi Robert,

Thanks for your post. :)

To migrate the data into Article Manager 2, you would need to have Article Manager 1.41 installed first. You can download both versions from the Upgrade page.

When you install Artman 2, it will go into a separate directory so that you can play with it and tweak it until you're ready, so the scenario you describe will work perfectly. :)

Thanks for answering. I found the tutorial on migrating AM1 to a new server here http://www.interactivetools.com/products/articlemanager1/tutorials_artman_moveserver.html
Is there help about migrating AM2.01? What files need to be saved and copied to the new server?

Robert

The tutorial hasn't been written yet. However, the steps are similar. First, install Artman 2 on the new server. Then, the folders you'll want to copy over from the previous setup are:

/data/
/templates/
/uploads/

...plus any files that you've modified.

If your data is saved in MySQL and you want to move it to a new database, you can do this via the admin directly -- it's really easy!

To change the database, go to "Admin" and choose "Database Editor". On this page, select "Use Data from a different database" from the Database Actions, and hit continue.

Now, enter the details for your OLD MySQL database to tell Article Manager where to look. If you were previously using "localhost" for the database server, you may need to ask your hosting provider for the actual address of the MySQL server, since you won't be accessing it from the same server anymore.

Fill in all of the details, and Article Manager will start using the old database.

Then, to move it to the new one, go back to the Database Editor page, and select "Move data to a new database" from the Database Actions, and hit continue.

Now, enter in the new details for the MySQL database you want to move to... and you're good to go. :) Article Manager will automatically copy everything over from the old database into the new one itself.

Make sure you test everything before deleting your old database, and you should be good to go!

And, of course, if you do run into any trouble... let us know. :)
