Migrade to new server Article Manager 1.41 Can't Post

Hello,

I have an installation for Article Manaer ver 1.41 and I need to change hosting providers.

can some one please post instructions.

I have checked the forum, but usually the links end up on the interactivetools.com home page, (I guess they are too old and broken)

thank you.

I have done this multiple times. The easiest way that I have found is for your NEW hosting provider to use their tools to transfer (copy) your complete domain from the old provider to the new one.

As I host my own on a dedicated server this is done for me through WHM (Web Host Manager) - In WHM there is a function called transfers.

There are two types of transfers that I have used - one with password and one without - I always choose the one with as I have both passwords and I am sure it copies over everything. Simple and effective once completed I just change the DNS at the registrar and good to go.

The problems comes when you are trying to transfer a large site (say more that 50MB) as it could take the new server time to copy and move all the files over the net.

I would contact your new provider and see what they can do.

Another choice is of course to do a complete domain backup - copy the backup file to the new server and then restore it. This has been more of a pain for me but it also works. Again talk to your current hosting provider as well as new to make sure they can do this or if you have the permissions you can kick off the domain backup yourself (I use cPanel to do this).

Here is another choice and it works but is much more involved - is to ftp copy your site to your local pc and then upload to the new server. Problems with this method is some files need to be copied ascii and some binary and you have to deal with file permissions. As I said much more involved than the other choices. And I would not recommend unless you are very very comfortable in what it takes.

Always do a backup first so if you make any mistakes it is not catastrophic.

Good luck

Hi jimeu,

It looks like doitnow has provided quite a bit of detail for you here regarding server migration. As long as your new hosting provider will support Article Manager's requirements you should be able to get the software all back up and running on the new server after a couple of permission tweaks.

If you do get everything moved to a new server and run into any hiccups, or have any other questions, just let me know! Smile
