How to Change Search Function Can't Post

I'm using Article Manager 2.16 and need to have a question answered. On my main page, I have my content set up as a list. I have a Next button at the bottom of the screen. When I click next, the nexct page should be part of the article list. The next page does come up, but when it does so, I get this long URL:

http://www.earthchangesmedia.com/cgi-bin/artman2/search.cgi?action=search&page=2&perpage=15&template=articleLists/categoryIndex.html&categoryNums=2&includeSubcats=1&template=articleLists/default-full.html

The title of the page is "Unknown Placeholder". How can I change the URL so it mentioned the next article list page instead of the long URL I get above.

Hi there,

Thanks for the post!

By default Article Manager rolls over to a search results page on your second page of results. This means that once someone clicks "next" they'll be directed away from your index page and onto a page of search results.

With the way the software works there isn't a way to change this unless you knew how many pages deep you wanted this format to go. You couldn't really set up an infinite number of pages, though you could potentially set up a few pages to be published with static URLs.

Does something like this sound like it would work for you? If so, just let me know and I can outline how you can set this up. It'll likely just involve creating a couple of publishing rules and tweaking your templates a bit.

Let me know how this sounds! Smile

What you described sounds like what we want to do. Please tell me how to do it.

Thanks.

Hi Harry!

While this is definitely do-able, it's not really recommended -- search engines probably already have your additional pages (via the search engine) indexed, and they tend not to be too fond of duplicate content.

However, if you really want to set this up, what you'll end up doing is creating a new publish rule based on a copy of your Global Index publish rule, except set to show listings 11-20 (under "Limit X - X").

You'll also need to create a copy of the global index template, and change the "Next" and "Prev" links so that instead of being dynamic, they're hardcoded to a specific filename. Take a note of what filename you give it, and add that into the publish rule you create above.

You'll need to do this for every page you want to create, so it can be a bit of a job. Generally, leaving the search engine to do its job is going to be a better solution. :)

I hope this helps!

Donna

I wasted too much time on AM already. I'll just leave it the way it is.

Thanks for the advice.
