Advanced placeholder use Can't Post

I'm looking for a way to use placeholders the same way the "***image1***" is used in the WYSIWYG editor. I'd like to be able to use it to place predesigned code or even attach embedded video code to it. I just want the users to have to think as little as possible while having more control over the layout of the article. Preferable, I would find a way to create placeholders from the add/edit article page and even change what the placeholders do.

On the other hand is there a way to use fields (like $my.siteName$) from the WYSIWYG editor? So far all attempts have not worked.

Hi,

My Placeholders publish content using the publish templates so it won't work when added to the editor.

What about adding a WYSIWYG editor button to embed video code? You could add a button to insert Windows media.

For adding predesigned code, you could setup a dropdown list for the article edit page? Depending on the users choice it would add the code to the article.

Can you give me some examples of what you have in mind for code (ads, links, etc)? Hopefully then I can suggest ways to accomplish this.

Let me know. :)

Re: [Damon] Advanced placeholder use [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm looking for two major things: Adsense placed within the article by using some kind of place holder that the user can specify (sorta like the image thing) and video placed the same way. The adsense code will always be the same, however the embedded video will always be different, probably a link from google video. For the adsense I was looking for some kind of button I could create that would place the code OR preferable a placeholder that would ALWAYS call for the same code. For the video, i'd like to have a text box that I could place the code in, and then have that attached to another placeholder that would be the same for every new article (like ***video***) but the variable would be specified by the users input in the text box. It's alot to ask, but any help you can give me will be appreciated.

Hi there.

Damon and I have been looking into this for you and with the embeded video, there is actually a tutorial that I think will work nicely for you:

http://www.interactivetools.com/forum/gforum.cgi?post=50487#50487

That's going to go over a great way for embedding videos into your article pages.

Now, for the google adsense code, we were thinking that using a template modifier on your template would be the best way to handle it.

Basically, there is a way to tell your template to only show a certain amount of paragraphs from your article content then stop. So what you would do is tell the template to show something like the first 4 paragraphs and stop. After that, you can put the code for your adsense on the template and tell the template to start showing the rest of your content after that. It's all really easy to set up and this way, you just put the adsense in once so you don't have to worry about it each time you create a new article. Let me know what you think of that and we'll get you a walk through setup.

How does that sound? I look forward to hearing from you :).

Re: [ross] Advanced placeholder use [In reply to] Can't Post

i like the suggestion for the adsense although i'm not quite sure how it will work. in a perfect world what i'd like to see happen is the ability to have adsense code on the screen at all times as they scroll down, which means placing more than one 250x250 panel in an article. mostlty there will be two, but some will have three.

as far as the video goes, i've read that tutorial, and have already implemented that, however it is NOT perfect solution as i would like to be able to wrap text above and below it on the page. still working on how to do that... i'm sure it can be done, just think i'm looking at it from the wrong perspective....

in the interim i have messed with some of the wysiwyg buttons/html/javascript and have come up with a way to do it THAT way, but as you cannot view the items you are placing in the editor until you preview, it means you need to add it after you write the article and hope it works :)
