Adding Keywords... Can't Post

I was thinking, I'd like to add "keywords" in a field so that either people who submit their articles *OR* I can add keywords relevant to the article.

They would be hidden in the template, but posted in the meta tags.

Is it possible to do this, and preferably, that:

1) either we set a limit to the number of keywords they can have

or

2) only we can see this field so they can't access it and attempt to abuse it?

Hi Amber,

There are two ways you can do this -- one would be to set the "Max Length" in the database editor for that field. The downside to that is that it'll limit based on characters, not words.

However, you could also use the "max words" modifier in the placeholder itself. Take a look at this page in the docs for more details:

http://www.interactivetools.com/docs/doc.cgi?/articlemanager2/templates/modifiers_maxWords.html

I hope this helps. :)

Hi Donna,

I never did get around to adding this lol - but am looking at it further now.

Is there a way to have a "suggested keywords" field (yes, I know I can create a field in the articles table...)...

but have it appear ONLY to registered authors (not guests)?

i.e., "if guest" show regular article submission page
If other show keyword field?

Or would I be better to keep this as hidden and only I add it? I don't want standard "guest" authors using it because for the most part, it'll be abused.

Hi Amber,

Hmm, there's no built in way to do it. You might be able to trick the interface templates into only showing it for non-writer user levels, but the fields are displayed by field type and then dynamically generated, so whatever field type you chose would have ALL other fields like that locked out from that user level. Either way, it would involve modifying the interface templates which is a little beyond what our support can offer.

Oh, and one update to the last post I wrote about this -- you can set the field itself to limit how many characters are allowed, via the input validation of the field. :)
