A word of caution when changing categories

I had a recent brain fade and don't want the rest of you to get caught by the same issue. This primarily relates to my posting of articles on Digg but it applies to anyone who's publishing or sending links to your articles. Background: I have a main category called "Press Room". My initial thought (which I'm now rethinking) was to publish articles under two sub-categories under "Press Room"; specifically they are (were) "Current" and "Archive". This results in a category structure like this: Press Room - Current - Archive So far so good! My concept was to have "current" articles published under the Current category and old articles published under Archive category. I later changed the concept and eliminated the Current sub-category. This simplified the structure and "current" articles were moved directly into Press Room (this is where I got into trouble), leaving the old articles still in the Archive category. The revised category structure now looks like: Press Room - Archive Keep in mind, and this is where you need to be careful, that the "republishing" of articles when you change their category (in my case from Current to Press Room or from Press Room to Archive), causes the articles to be moved (not copied) on your server into different folders under the /publish directory. As a result, if you send someone a link to an article, and subsequently change the article's category, the link you sent will no longer be valid and the user will get a 404 error - not a good thing! I'm considering a couple of alternatives. I need to go back and look at the admin panel. I recall (I'm a relative newbee to AM) that there may be a way to eliminate the folder structure under the /publish directory. If my recollection is correct, this would result in all of the articles being published under the same directory on the server. In my case, I like the fact that articles are arranged in folders that mirror the category structure but as you can see, there is a down side to this when you change an articles category. Alternatively, I could eliminate the Archive sub-category under Press Room. This would result in all articles showing up under Press Room. The down side here is that as the number of articles grow, the Press Room starts to get sorta crowded. (As a side note, I use different publishing rules for the articles in Press Room versus those in the Archive. The Press Room has article summaries whereas the Archive only has the title, date, and category of the article. This is done to conserve space on the Archive page.) Bottom line - be careful when you change an articles category!
