cathead Can't Post
Is there any way to get a cathead filename to be specific for that (sub)category? It is kinda annoying to try and find which cathead goes with which sub category. :(

I am trying to create a page for a category that displays the sub category top headlines. I am trying to do this dynamically. The problem I am having is that the cathaed pages are not moved with the articles when specific articles for the category is chosen. Therefore I was wondering if you could rename them to be category specific. Like ...
mark_cathead.shtml
mark_sub_cathead.shtml ...
etc

Hi there,

I'm still not 100% sure what you're actually looking for. It sounds like you might be trying to change the filename for the category index page? If so, you can do this by going into the Category Editor, click "Modify" next to the category you want to edit, and under "Advanced Options" selecting "Use filename", and entering the file name you'd prefer to use.

Nope,

Not the cat index, the cathead

The one that displays a couple of the top headlines for the sub category.

Hi there,

I think this is where we're getting confused -- there is no template called "cathead". Are you referring to the headlines/default.html template?

By default, these all output a filename like: cat_headlines_XX.shtml where XX is the category number. You can change the default by going into the Setup Options, choosing Server, and scrolling down to the Publish File Settings. However, the unique identifier on the file name will always be the category number, not the category name.

However, finding out the category number is pretty easy. If you go into the category editor and click "Modify", take a look in your address bar. It will end in: "cat_edit=XX". The XX is your category number. :)

that is how i got it to "cathead"

It is *not* that easy to go to each one and check which one it is when you have tons of sub categories... and not to mention the do not get published in the same dir as the articles for the category (if other dir is chosen for articles beyond default).

Possible to go against a search result for this?

But just output the headlines???

Would I have to make a custom search display? Is that possible to make 2 search templates?

Hi there,

Thanks for your post.

You could use a search result, but you'd still need to get the category number to customize the search query.

However, you can easily specify a different template for the search engine by adding:

&template=search/new_template.html

to the end of the link. So, the full link would be something like this:

http://yoursite.com/path/to/artman/exec/search.cgi?search=1&template=search/new_template.html&cat=5

This query would specify category 5, and a different template.

ermmm that's jsut a roundabout way of doing the same thing I guess...

Ohh well ... guess it jsut wont do what I need it to
