Publish File Settings Can't Post

Hello, I seem to have a problem with the Publish File Settings. No matter what I enter for the number of headlines per page, etc it keeps defaulting back to '1'

I set the figures to show 20 headlines in a category and on the main index and 5 in the 'headlines by category section. I click enter and it looks OK, I go to 'Publish all' then view the homepage.

There are now 5 headlines in the headlines by category section but still 1 everywhere else. so I return to the admin section and all the numbers are showing '1'. I click publish all again and even the headlines by category reverts to 1 headline (where it was previously showing 5)

Is there a setup file that is not recording the data correctly?

thanks

Hi Simon,

Thanks for the post! Smile

When you make a change to the Setup Options in Article Manager the data file that will be updated is /artman/data/setup.dat.cgi. I'd suggest double checking that this file on your server (along with the entire /data/ directory) has full permissions set for it.

On a Windows server this would mean setting read, write, execute, erase, etc. permissions for the user that Perl runs as. Perl generally runs as IUSR_servername where "servername" is the name of your server. On a Unix-based server you'd want to set CHMOD 777 permissions.

If these permissions are already set and these settings still aren't being maintained I'd be happy to have a look at this for you. You'll just want to fill out a Support Request with your FTP details here:

https://www.interactivetools.com/support/email_support.cgi

This should allow me to get onto the server and have a look at what might be happening for you.

In the meantime if you have any other questions or comments, just let me know! Smile

Hi Simon.

I actually just replied to your email after solving the problem but I wanted to post and update for anyone else following along here.

Basically, the problem was just a permissions things. The files in the /artman/data folder need to be set to “777” on a UNIX server and full read/write on a windows machine. Once those were adjusted, the settings changes started to stick again. And that’s it.

If anyone would like some more detail, let me know Smile.

Thanks Ross

I did think the problem had been fixed but I just uploaded an amended template, clicked Publish All and the settings have reverted to the old figures.

I'm not sure how this is happening, Any ideas?

OK, just to rule out any weirdness at my end I tried the same thing on three different browsers (firefox, IE and Safari) I also tried it via a dial-up ISP incase it was a caching issue with the ISP.

Still the same, everything reverts to '1' headline per page when I click Publish All.
Unsure

Hi Simon,

Thanks for the update!

The issue now may be in your template files, it is however a little hard for me to narrow things down without actually looking at your template files. What you may want to do is fill out a new supprt request. Once I have ftp details I will be happy to take a look at this for you. :)

Hi Chet, did you get a chance to investigate this further.

I need to upload all the other templates and I'm loath to do so until we find the bug.

Cheers

Hi Simon.

Thanks for posting!

I had another look at your site today and found that I wasn’t running into any trouble when trying to make changes to those settings. Perhaps you had actually already resolved the problem Smile.

I changed everything to 7 and hit save. They stayed as 7 when I went back. I then hit the Publish All button and they still stayed at 7. Your front page also have 7 articles on it right now so that was sticking as well.

Could you have another look and let me know if you are still having trouble getting the settings to stick Smile.

Hello

Sorry for the hassle. It would appear that the Post Date/Expire add-onn from AM Scrips is the root of the conflict. It overrides the settings entered within AM.

I did not know this, The installation instructions that came with the script does not mention this.

Hi Simonwh,

What you may want to do is contact amscripts directly and explain the problem to them. If the issue is indeed related to the addon/expire script I am sure they would be willing to give you a hand in solving this issue. :)

You can contact amscripts using the link below:

Re: [ChetW] Publish File Settings [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks, I have already done that (awaiting a response) It would appear, unless I'm missing something very obvious, that the instructions that accompany the script are incomplete. Dealing only with installation and not usage.

As this script has been such a pain I have decided to remove it altogether

Thanks for your help and sorry to get you to do extra work trying to find a fix to a bug that turned out to be caused by an add-on
