Strange issue with auto-format

I have been using AM 1 on several websites for a few years. Since 2004, I do no longer use WYSYWYG, but HTML (prepared with Page Spinner), with auto-format. Auto-format is set as default in my settings. I recently upgraded to 1.41. Today, instead of opening AM with Safari or Omniweb as usual (I am on Mac), I decided to try to open it with Firefox. As I chose to create an article, I was surprised to see a WYSYWYG window appearing. Quite perplexing. I attempted to enter my code in the WYSYWYG window, published it, but then realized I had a mixture on my website (it was an article in French, i.e. many accented characters): mostly the code (Latin ISO-1) was missing where needed. I then returned to Safari. To my surprise, although auto-format was on in the settings preferences, it was off when I checked articles and attempted to test creating new ones. Fortunately, it did not destroy the formatting of the some 300 articles which are online. But it suppressed the line break as found in auto-format. Now, when I check existing articles, all have auto-format off (despite the fact that I did never checked it off in the settings) and, instead of "the visible" line breaks, I have now breaks appaearing in such a way within a continuous text: away with him."< br / >< br / >Downing (I have set up space between the brackets in order to prevent it to auto-format when posting) OK, not a real problem, what matters is that it didn't remove the line breaks, which would really have been a nightmare, since I am about to move to a new server, and it would have made it impossible to republish my website properly. However, I am very puzzled by what happened. Since I had used for years now (since my switch to the Mac in 2004) browsers without WYSYWYG capacity for AM, I had not expected such a problem. There seems to be some issue with Firefox, since just opening AM in Firefox apparently created the problem (I can see no other reason: I had put online three other articles today using Safari, and there was no issue). What is you opinion? And why could it transform in such a way existing articles also when I open them in Safari. By the way, I noticed in the setup options that art_content and art_summary were still marked as WYSYWYG - it had never been an issue, since I was using non-WYSYWYG enabled browsers. I have now set them to textarea, in case I open AM again with Firefox. Do you feel this should solve the issue? Is there any other advise you would give to me following that small incident, especially since I will move and republish later this month the entire content to a new server? Thnak you for your comments and advice.
