Select Articles for Display Can't Post

Hi,

If I select an article within it's lowest level category for modification in the Article Editor it works. But If try to select it (e.g. hidden articles only) in the parent category it fails to find it?

e.g Mag Title - News

Select criteria by Mag Title - News works, but select same criteria for Mag Title only fails to find any article? Also noticed that search 'All Categories' for same criteria works but I would get every publication (Mag Title) presumably?

Hi Tony,

Thanks for your post... unfortunately, I'm not quite following what you're getting at. Can you give me more details about the issue you're having?

Thanks, Tony -- I hope we can help you get to the bottom of this ASAP. :)

Re: [Donna] Select Articles for Display [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Donna

OK let me clarify with an example:

I have a hidden article in the News category of the "Plumbing" magazine and another one in the Technical category of the same magazine.

I am in the Article Editor and want to display only hidden articles for the "Plumbing" magazine so I select the Plumbing Magazine Category and the status "Hidden" - the current result is that no articles are found. One could be led to believe this is true ...............! However, if I select each sub-category for the magazine the articles will be found individually and displayed for modification.

Imagine - I write 12 articles for publication at a later date - so I give them all a hidden status. Come publication date I want to modify them to change the status to visible. The way this is working I will have to check each subcategory of a magazine to find hidden articles. I want to select a magazine and then go through all of it's hidden articles at the same time to modify them to 'visible'.

It's a useabliity issue?

Re: [Donna] Select Articles for Display [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi,

I have subsequently realised that when using the article editor you cannot select any articles (regardless of status - hidden, visible etc ) for a parent category for display. Only selection by sub-category seems to find the articles for updating purposes.

e.g. I have a magazine with 15 articles in various sub-categories a, b, c etc. If I just select the magazine category in the article editor it is unable to find any articles. However, if I select by subcategory a or b or c etc then the articles are found for the matching sub-category.

Is it possible to select all the articles contained in a parent category for update in the article editor?

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the clarification. What you're experiencing is correct -- if you want to find articles in a specific category, you need to be looking in that specific category, rather than the parent category.

However, if you're only looking for hidden articles, you can simply select "All Categories" and then search for hidden articles there. That would pull up all of the hidden articles, which should hopefully help you find the ones you're looking for. :)

Hi Donna,

Thanks for your response - I will use an extra field with a dropdown instead of a sub-category to achieve more or less the same result.

I guess I will have to sort the extra field in alphabetic sequence in order to display all articles of the same type together when displaying the article index.
