Pricing for upgrades Can't Post

I just read in the newsletter that upgrades will no longer be free after August 3rd. What will the pricing be?

I ask because our customers have liked using AM so much that we have never considered using another CMS, knowing that if there are adaptations that need to be made in the programming as browsers, etc., change, the upgrades will not cost us an additional amount. (Also your customer support cannot be beat.)

This is not a complaint, but paying for upgrades does mean that we will have to reconsider our own charges to clients with new installations after the 3rd for whom we will maintain websites.

Thank you.

Hi matrix,

Thanks for your post. :)

Currently, we haven't worked out what the exact pricing will be. However, rest assured that all of your current licenses will still have free upgrades for life, and that will never change. This change only applies to licenses purchased *after* August 3rd. So your current clients won't require any changes to their pricing.

Thank you, Donna. Our immediate problem is that we have at least 3 new clients coming on board for whom we plan to use AM as the CMS.

Just to clarify: these are anticipated clients...we're almost certain they'll want their sites built some time within the next 2 or 3 months, but not sure enough to purchase AM on spec, so existing purchases don't apply here.

We need to prepare upcoming clients for upgrade charges that we know will happen at some time in the future. For instance, one is a nonprofit who may find it prohibitive to pay for both our time and an extra hit for the upgrade itself.

I hope this doesn't sound pettily detailed, but we are respected for pricing accurately up front so that new clients won't have unpleasant surprises down the line. Is there a ballpark figure we can assume?

Thanks for your quick reply!

Re: [matrix] Pricing for upgrades [In reply to] Can't Post

Our intention is to charge for upgrades that add significant new features and functionality to the product. So the way to sell it to your client would be based on the new features and how that could help them.

We're not sure what pricing will be yet. It might depend on how many new features are in an upgrade. If we need to release an update for a bug fix, security or browser compatibility issue I can't see us charging for that.

For the most part though upgrading isn't absolutely required. There are lots of people who use much older versions of our various products without any problems at all.

As for potentially needing some new licenses in the next few months. If you buy some licenses now you could still get the free lifetime upgrades and then if you ended up not needing them you could make use of our 90 day refund policy.

Hope that helps, if you have any other questions please feel free to ask! :)
