Order of Index Can't Post
Hi there,
I am trying to order the Index so that the summary (row_summary) comes first and then the plain link (row) comes after it. I've tried switching the <!-- templatecell : row --> for the <!-- templatecell : row_summary --> but that didn't work. Also tried sorting it using the Article Sorting in the Setup options but (and maybe I was doing it wrong) that didn't work. You can see what i am trying to do here :

I want the links at the top to be at the bottom and the summary article to be on top.
Any ideas anyone? Or will I have to resort to using a new Article Field?

Hi ElizaDay,

It seems we have similar goals in mind. If I'm not mistaken the row, row_summary (etc) placeholders are only effective if grouped together as part of a larger "article insert" template cell (If I am mistaken, much appreciated for the correction!).

I tried something similar with unsatisfactory results. I'm now trying something slightly different (see if you can make sense of this post) to achieve the same result, so it may be worthwhile to follow each other's threads. =)

Hi there.

Thanks for starting the discussion!

By default, your articles should actually be getting sorted by whether the featured box is checked and then by the date they were created.

If you weren’t planning on using the date though, you could use that to order your articles. Just enter a date sometime in the past for the article you want to appear first and then enter a date sometime after that for the article you want to appear second. You can do this for as many articles as you like.

Now, there is also a way to setup specific ordering using a new field like you had mentioned, so if you wanted to try that out, let me know and I’ll give you some more details on that Smile.

Thanks Ross,

That worked. I was trying it that way but I had the articles in reverse date order and thought by checking the reverse option under Article Sorting it would, well, reverse the order. It didn't. (Should it have?).

Hello Ross, in my case what I want is to have artman show first the LAST featured article I entered (one per day) and then the rest of articles from that date, but what it is doing is showing first the last featured article, then the next featured article (from yesterday) then the other articles from today and then the other articles from yesterday.

How can I tell AM to show the featured article from previous dates below the articles from a most recent date, even if they are not featured?

Hi there.

Thanks for posting!

I think the way you'll end up with the most control over your featured article's order is if you setup a category for them.

That way, you can create a publish rule that orders them specifically and creates a little file that you can include over your regular articles. With the latest version of Article Manager you'll even be able to have the featured article appear both in the featured section and in the category it actually belongs in.

Thanks for the post!

Actually your unable to create publish rules in Article Manager1, what you will probably want to do is use two seperate search queries for seperating your featured and regular content. :)

To do this you may have code similar to this on your index page:

Notice the template that is called in the first include (featuredresults.html) this template file will be a stripped down copy of your index/default.html template file. This new template file should only include the code needed to generate the article summaries and any unique design choices you have made so that the featured stories stand out. :)
