Newbie - sorry if this has been covered, but desperate Can't Post

Hi everyone! I am a newbie to Article Manager, sort of. I work for a nonprofit and was hired to take over their web management. I have used article manager successfully since day one, but I did not build the site nor did I do the install on the servers at my isp. I have been challenged to build a new website and have begun building it with templates in dreamweaver. Now I need step by step instructions on how to get article manager to work inside these templates, or is that even possible? Is there an easy way to do this? Should I upgrade, would that make my task easier? I sorta need some help asap, I have to have this site rebuilt and launched by August 14th. Thank you so much!

Hi punkgirl! Welcome to Article Manager. :)

Step-by-step instructions are going to be a little tricky as every site is very different, so there's no way we can know exactly what your site is going to need. :)

First, I'd recommend taking a look at the documentation here:

http://www.interactivetools.com/docs/articlemanager/admin/index.html

For integrating templates, the main thing to keep in mind is that you'll be putting your look & feel into our templates -- not the other way around. Article Manager has a specific set of filenames that it will look for, so you'll need to modify the existing templates (or create new ones based on the fields & code that exist in the current ones.)

Upgrading is definitely an option, although depends on what you'll be doing -- I'm assuming that your site currently has data that you'll want to be keeping? What you might want to try doing is upgrading, which will import the existing articles, fields, and templates into the new system, but won't affect the existing site. You could then start your redesign from there, although the "base" templates will be the new Article Manager 2 templates, with your old look & feel. This might complicate things a little bit, but if you're going to upgrade to Article Manager 2 at any time, this would be the time to do it -- before a redesign.

As always, if you get stuck on anything... let us know! :)

Donna -

Thank you so much! I had read the documentation, but didn't really understand it, but a lightbulb just went off and now I understand a bit more. Surprisingly, the new version 2 template color scheme works just perfectly with my new site design, so now I just need some help understanding how to do my masthead, top navigation, and left navigation for the article manager pages. I was hoping to do it in a dreamweaver template, but I guess it looks like all of it is ssi? Donna, if you can give me contact info I can send you my ftp info if you have a moment to glance? I am really unsure where to go next - I thought I had this all worked out brilliantly (making my nav bar in a template so no ssi there) but apparently, ssi is stalking me. * sigh *
