My flash image will not load properly. Can't Post

I am very new to Aericle manager and I am still working on my main template but have come across a problem with the main flash image in my top banner.

All I get is the word loading.

see the page

http://southlandmedia.com.au/artman/publish/index.shtml

I have got the words welcome working and the rotating images but am stuck with this flash file.

it works on the test page I created using dreamweaver before I got AM

here is the site http://www.southlandmedia.com.au/usutest/

- my aim is to get my AM site looking as close as possible to the old template I created.

I am just not sure whether it has anything to do with AM or is it me?

The flash movie is one I purchased and I had to link the immages and photos which I have put in the site as well.

This site will be moved eventually but I am trying to sort as much as possible out now.

Many thanks

Hi,

Thanks for posting and welcome to the forum! Smile

I've had a look at the page you've directed me to and it seems that the Flash Header is now showing up on the index.shtml page that you had linked to.

Hopefully this means you've managed to sort everything out since your post but if not and if you can provide me with any other details as to what is happening I'd be happy to have another look at this for you.

Thanks! Smile

Mike

I am intrigued to find out whether you get the words and text on the flash image at

http://southlandmedia.com.au/artman/publish/index.shtml

or just the word Loading.

I just get loading - on safari, firefox (both mac) and explorer (virtual PC)

If you are getting the full flash image then it must be a local problem.

Thanks for answering so soon.

Hi Margaret,

Thanks for your email.

You're right, I only get the "Loading" bit. However, this indicates a problem with the code, rather than Article Manager -- the pages that Article Manager creates are static HTML, so your web browser (which is what's parsing that code) doesn't actually know the difference between a page created by Article Manager and one created by hand.

The only difference I notice in your code is that you're referencing a different directory, and you've got the full URL rather than just the path. So, you might want to change the path so that it refers directly to the file -- without the http://southlandmedia.com.au part in it.

Give that a try and let me know if it works for you. :)

Donna

Hi Margaret,
i think i know the problem with loading your flash file... you are loading external files into that flash window.

- flash.txt
- ./pictures/pict0.jpg

change them to absolute paths in your flash file, reupload and your problem will be solved. make sure you do that on ALL relative paths within your flash file. Smile

- /path/to/flash/file/flash.txt
- /path/to/picture/image/pict0.jpg

Hi Marssin

Thanks for responding

I think what you are saying is very correct - I purchased this flash image some time ago (I am a flash dummy) and all I had to do was rename the pic and insert my own text and it worked well (as you see on my orginal draft site).

The external files are my own and I have loaded them into the same directory with the flash file so I am not sure now why they won't work when they are in the same directory.

Donna's suggestion of taking away the absolute paths did not work - all I got was a white space, so ...

I think I need to understand the whole link thing when I am in the AM pages. Because the templates are within folders and the images are in another folder I have been using absolute paths but this is not really sensible is it?

So two things I need to do

1. see if I can change those links within the flash file - I don't think I can because I did not get the original file just the .swf

2. work out what the hell is the correct way to link my images etc because once I get this up and running I have to move it to another server!!

I think I am in trouble! and I thought I was progressing well

Crazy

By the way - I have given up on that flash file - it was some sort of problem with the way I am linking.

I created a new flash file that is working fine in AM - it may not be as fancy as the other one but at least I have some control.

Any advice on relative paths v absolute paths for AM would still be appreciated
