Hi Steveo,

Thanks for the post! Smile

Article Manager is designed to allow you to enter in the content for articles and have these articles displayed on your website. If you're looking to output some XML feeds from other sources on your site then you'd actually want to look into an XML reader of some kind that can display the content of these scripts on your site.

If you can give me a bit more detail about these feeds and how you were hoping to use them I should be able to give you a bit more detail about how this might work.

I look forward to hearing from you and if you have any other questions, just let me know! Smile

Re: [MikeB] Importing XML [In reply to] Can't Post

hi mike.. thanks for the reply

We are using a press agency to issue us news articles through XML. We would then need to pull these articles using XML into AM.

I can email you a sample if you like.

I would love to stick with AM.. its great software and hope somehow we can incorporate our XML into it.

regards
Steve

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the additional details! Smile

Having a look at this it still doesn't seem like something Article Manager is generally designed or used for. If you're looking to have the content on your site controlled by XML feeds from external sites then you'd actually want to look into some kind of XML reader or aggregator.

Article Manager is designed to maintain your content (content that you have written) rather than bring in content from external sites or files. XML files aren't something that would be published as static article so I'm not too sure how Article Manager would be used on a site like this. The software allows you to create new articles and categories and then start writing content so I don't think that adding the code for an XML feed within Article Manager's admin program is really something that would be the best solution for maintaining your content.

If you'd just like certain bits of your site to be controlled by these XML feeds then you'd actually just want to add this code for an XML aggregator right onto Article Manager's template files. This means that the majority of your site would be content that you manually wrote through Article Manager but on the right hand side (for example) there is a list of articles that link to the Press Agency site.

I hope this helps and if you have any other questions feel free to let me know! Smile

Re: [Mike4172] Importing XML [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Steve!

Thanks for the additional details!

If I understand correctly you would like to take an xml document that the news agency sends you and convert it into an HTML page on your site. Is this correct?

Is this xml information meant to be displayed in a side column or area like Mike mentioned?

If your goal is to have a side column or section that displays html based on the xml file that the news agency gives you then the following may work for you:

- Create an XSLT sheet that converts the XML into an XHTML page for you.

You can read more about XSLT here:
http://www.evolt.org/article/Your_First_XSLT_Page/17/25000/index.html

- Next you would add a server side include to your Article Manager HTML template files, this include will link to your XSLT created XHTML page.

The include you create would be placed where on the site design you want the XML driven information displayed (for example the side column).

With an approach like this you could have your normal Aricle Manager created content displayed on your site and also a seperate section that is created based off the XML files sent to you.

Does this sound like something that might work for you Steve?

Re: [ChetW] Importing XML [In reply to] Can't Post

hi

yes this sounds interesting.

I already have the data already converted into html on our server. We just would have liked to use article manager to use the data as we love AM. Perhaps the sql version would work when its launched??

I will check out your suggestion
