How do I get larger input boxes for placeholder / field names? Can't Post

Greetings,

I'm a new user and am doing the modifications preliminary to going live with Article Manager.

I've added a fieldname for a placeholder that is used by my staff to drop in html for advertisements that will appear with the articles. Unfortunately, the default size of the input box is just one row of text. This is very inconvenient. First, the display is only of a tiny portion of the html. Second, the box won't allow multiple lines of html to be pasted in at once -- it allows only one line at a time.

How do I make a modification to increase the verticle size (the rows) of the input box?

Thank you
Steve

UnimpressedNo one's responded to my question -- my first to the forum. I thought it would be a no-brainer for the more experienced folks on the forum. As a newby, this has me scratching my head....

Hi CharityChannel,

It's unfortunately not possible to change what kind of field that a Spare Field will display on the Article Editor's edit page. The only options that you have are a text field or a dropdown.

Coincidentally, the next version of Article Manager will allow you to select from two more options: a checkbox and a multi-line text area. It sounds like the next update (which is available free of charge) will satisfy your requirements. As development will only be beginning tomorrow, I can't give you a release date.

Stay tuned! Smile
Chris

Thank you Chris. I don't mind going under the hood, as it were, to manually insert a multi-line text box. Where would I be able to do that modification myself?

There's really no way for anyone to change something like this. The spare fields are built dynamically by the program, and we don't allow modifications to the source code.

If you can hold out for the upgrade (hopefully to be released this month) I guarantee you'll be more than happy with the results. Smile

Chris, my thanks to you guys for getting us the text box options. Now, if I could only get the WYSIWYG to work. Unimpressed

Hi Steve,

To have the WYSISYG editor work, check the following:
  • if you have upgraded, confirm that you have uploaded the htmlarea directory and files into the images directory on your site. Ex. www.yoursite.com/artman/images/htmlarea
  • next, in the Setup options of Article Manager under the Gereral tab, select WYSIWYG for field type for both Summary and Content from the drop down list.
  • now using IE 5+ browser on Windows you should be able to see and use the WYSIWYG editor for creating new article or modifying existing articles. If you aren't using an IE 5+ browser, you will just see a regular text box.

I hope that helps. If you are still having problems, send us an email to support@interactivetools.com with your Article Manager login info so we can assist further.
