Excluding one category.. Can't Post
Excluding one category when using syndicate option.

What I would want to do is that I would have two different articlelists on same page, for example News and Other Articles.
News would include articles only from one category and Other Articles would include articles from all categories EXCEPT News. So, I wouldn't want to publish News-articles in both lists.
Is this possible with an easy solution?

As I have understood syndicate_0.js will publish all available articles and if I change HTML-code for example to syndicate_15.js this will show the articles only from that (15) category? So, this would be easy but I don't know how to exclude one category when publishing all categories.

If anyone has some solution I'm eager to hear about it..

I think many sites have administrative sections that they'd like to exclude from being syndicated. This is a great idea and has been added to our "Big List of Features". We'll announce if we ever incorporate it into Article Manager.

This is a great idea and has been added to our "Big List of Features".


Excellent Fraser ... indeed its much needed.
I am not advertising the syndicate feture in 2 sites just because of this reason.

I actually brought this up with the developers a few weeks ago. Another way they suggested to handle this would be to have a field that you can select to stop individual articles from being syndicated. Either way, though... it's on The List.

Along those lines Fraser would be to assign syndication rights to a writer as well.

For example, lets say that a site has 100 writer accounts. 5 of the writers are staff and the rest are outside. Lets say that a site wanted to charge the outside writers for access to syndication. Some may choose to syndicate and some not. But having the different access level will allow a site another revenue opportunity. Even if it is just 10 out of 100 that you charge it increases the profit accordingly.

As soon as you bring in the potential of charging for syndication, I think it adds a whole layer of functionality. Right now, the syndication service is essentially a tool for generating traffic to your website. People are just incorporating links to your site, but not any of your content.

To be able to charge for syndicated content, you'd need to push the full article content to remote sites, give people more precise control over which articles will get displayed, and remove all mention of the originating website (if they're paying, they won't want to give you credit too).

I'm not sure how far down this path we want to walk.

I think you may have mis-understood.

I think an option of charging for syndication at the "writer" level is an easy option. Charging for content is as you said, a much bigger proposition.

But if there were 2 extra levels added to the writer system:

Writer
Writer-Syndicator
Trusted Writer
Trusted Writer-Syndicator


Then you have the ability to control and assign access to syndication based on the writer level and not on just the article or category level.

So if a person wanted to create a writer with no syndication rights so as to only show the articles from that writer on their own site it would be easy.

Maybe we could have a checkbox when you set up the account that lets them syndicate or not. Just like you can control their categories.

That may work.

Maybe a second checkbox next to each category. This way you can assign the category and syndication rights on a category by category basis.Cool
