Editing default templates Can't Post

Hi,

I've been using Article Manager version 1.41 since April 2006 since then I have over 8,000 articles on there and it has performed flawlessly.

Other than insert adsense code here and there, I have left things "untouched" and not fiddled about with anything.

I now find myself wanting to hack around a tiny bit and change the "Latest Headlines" bars on the right hand side totally to remove the headlines all together and replace with other stuff.

After a look through the documentation I'm still a little coinfused about the files I need to edit.

Would I be correct that the files in question are:
/cgi-bin/artman/templates/headlines_bycat.html and
/cgi-bin/artman/templates/headlines/default.html

And - if I do edit both the remove what is there and replace with other stuff (say a few button/graphical ads) would it mess up anythig else - would the site stop "working?"

Thanks,

Andy.

Re: [AndyM] Editing default templates [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Andy,

Since those templates are a bit outdated, even unedited I'd need to take a look -- it's been a long time since I worked with version 1 templates... and there were a few varieties of different version 1 templates so I'm not sure which ones you have.

However, if you just want to remove the headlines all together, you can modify the index templates instead. Those will be the templates that contain the SSI call to pull the headlines in.

You can modify whatever you'd like -- just make sure you keep a backup in case it doesn't look the way you expected, so you can quickly return to the working version.
