Date Range in Article Editor Can't Post

Greetings,

I have a little riddle of sorts and would appreciate it if someone could extend some help...

When one opens Article Editor, one is presented with a series of drop down boxes for the article's date... The oldest date available, goes back to the year 2000...

I have a need to list dates that go back to over a century ago!... Is this something that cna be changed (and if yes, how/where)...

Or would I be better off creating a custom field, and simply entering the date by hand, in my chosen format?...

If either solution can be adopted, would be the pros and cons of each option? (Regarding indexing, searching, and whatever else I may not be thinking of... )

Thanks,

Joao

Re: [joa1] Date Range in Article Editor [In reply to] Can't Post

To change the earliest date go to /exec/config.ini and change the following under [article_editor]

earliest_year = 2000
latest_year = 2024

to say

earliest_year = 1900
latest_year = 2024

Remember to back up any files that you alter prior to changing them.

Hum... sounded simple, but... it doesn't work... set the earliest date value to 1800...

but it shows as earliest date only 1980 in the pulldown... A limitation with the script?... Can this be fixed?

Thanks.

Joao

Hi Joao,

Good question. Unfortunately you won't be able have article dates before 1980 because Article Manager uses a Perl language date function that doesn't handle dates before that period.

One work around that I can think of would be to remove the date and time placeholders from your templates ($art_date$ and $art_time$) and use some of the spare article fields to add the date. The articles could then be sorted by those spare article fields by choosing them in the Sort Options under the Setup Options section. I haven't tested this method but it should work in theory.
