Article Sorting Can't Post

I like the new feature with the button that you can click to make it a featured article and go right to the top. My question is if I have one article slected as the featured article and then create another article a few days later and choose to have it be featured what happens to the previous featured article? Does it drop to spot number two or does it automatically uncheck the featured box and drop to it's spot in the list according to it's date.

Thanks,
Adam

Re: [alyates] Article Sorting [In reply to] Can't Post

Adam,

The featured article feature is just a function of the article sorting. For the default setup, we created a new field called "Featured" and then selected that as the first criteria for sorting, followed by date.

So, if you have multiple "Featured Articles", then they'll sort by date, followed by all the rest of the articles, sorted by date. So to answer your question, it'll drop to number 2, unless you remove its featuredness.

Hi,

there is a placeholder to this feature?
In case I had a template with 2 columns and want to display Featured Article in first column... or only the Feature Article in article index page.

Thanks
Isac.

I don't understand what you mean by placeholder. To turn on the "Featured Box" you want to go to the setup options, go down the list list of fields, and make sure that "Featured" has been enabled.

From then on, every story will have a "Featured" box that you can click to keep the story glued to the top of your homepage.

I'm not sure how you're doing the columns, but try this out - I suspect it'll go to the top left column.

Re: [isac] Article Sorting [In reply to] Can't Post

The date sort is or isn't based on some real date? I am thinking the date is based on what we say it is in article editor. So, if that is true, we can set the dates to cause the articles to display in the order we want. That works for me in releasing a monthly type publication, but for ongoing publishers who offer something up whenever it occurs, I doubt this is much help.

It really would be a nice touch to have the ability to rank order the articles within each category, much as we can do for the categories. No doubt there is some programmer trick jump-through-hoops way to accomplish this, but I bought this product (and love it!) because I aren't a programmer on purpose.
