Article Manager vs. PHP Nuke Can't Post

Hello

We are looking to set up an online newspaper / news hub, initially something informal like the Drudge Report format - http://www.drudgereport.com but eventually developing it with more bells and whistles.

We am looking at Article Manager and PHP Nuke. I have a personal preference for MySQL solutions. Has anyone used both and can you provide comparisons on these two programs especially how they scale up to large sites and how they impact on a community hosted servers (Apache).

The one thing I do not like with PHP Nuke is that get updates etc. you need to pay a monthly tax of US$10. and join the PHP Nuke Club.

Best wishes

Re: [mromero] Article Manager vs. PHP Nuke [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi M.A.,

Although I'm not familiar with PHP Nuke, I can tell you what's cool about interactivetools.com :)

Firstly, we offer a 90-day money back guarantee on all of our software. So there's no risk when purchasing one of our products.

Second, we offer friendly, technical support, with real people. And what's best, it comes free and it's unlimited.

Even better, we provide free installations for all of our products. So we'll install the product for you for free, provide you with free technical support to help you get the product working with your current web project, and if within 90 days you find that it wasn't quite what you were looking for you can simply just refund it. No questions asked.

Additionally, all upgrades for our products are free. You'll never have to pay for the same program twice. When an upgrade is ready, we make sure to notify you right away so you can download the newest version with the latest features.

And last, we're a real company. We have programmers, support people, developers, accounting people, and all sorts of other staff. We also have a toll free number you can call.

So if you have any questions, or you want me to go over some of the features of Article Manager with you, just let me know, I'll be happy to help.

Hi mromero

I have used both .. and i agree to whats been said so far. Its just true.

I have used PhpNuke (http://phpnuke.org) and still use it on some sites, and i love it and hate it.
PhpNuke is feature rich..maybe TOO feature rich.
It has one BIG advantage over ArticleManager which is the use of MySql, but AM will be available in Sql sometime soon as i understand.
PhpNuke needs alot of time to customize and you'd probably still end up with a design thats very similar to many nuke sites... i hate that.
Too many templates to touch in PhpNuke when you wanna customize.
PhpNuke is FREE .. one BIG PLUS there.
PhpNuke is an open source software .. a BIGGER PLUS for that.
Learning curve for PhpNuke is a one hard mother .. clients kill me with constant question about how to do things with it. Just because it has too many features they feel obliged to use them all and end up so tired of it.
Addons for PhpNuke are great ... what i did once is customize a copy og nuke to be so plain and only added the features requested by clients.
Although i am all for a MySql version of ArticleManager, but i had a client who did not have mysql, thats when i met AM.

I say go with PhpNuke if you can afford the time, and go with AM if you can afford the price.
In most cases, time is more precious than money.

I do like all of the integrated feautures PHP Nuke comes with... including the search engine and forums, but as said before you got to be a PHP genious to get it going. Customizing templates is a nightmare. Can' use any WYSIWYG editors and is like navigating blind folded.

It is free, a big plus but after trying everything else, I couldn't beat the easy set up and customizing of Article Mgr. Basically with my DreamWeaver HTML editor, I can make it look as good as any major news site for a hell of a lot less. As development ad features continue, it should get even better. Only drawback for me ? The scripst are not open and it limits users imput and users mods. Eitherway, I will pick Art. Mgr. over PHP anytime, unless I wanted a huge Nuke headache Cool

Smile Thanks folks. I went ahead and purchased A.M. for the project. The friendly support and response on this forum helped me make up my mind. I must compliment Interactive Tools for their very friendly aproach.

I am also considering the purchase of another copy to run my main site www.Belize.com

as I would like a way to make this site easier to maintain.

Best wishes
