Alternative template? Can't Post

Hello, I would like to do the following: when I create a new article, I get 2 files each time: the article itself and the printer version. I would like to be able to generate a 3rd page only for the last 10 articles I create, which will have almost no design at all. This is to be served to third party sites who wish to display my news in a frame.

How can I do this?

Hi there

Thanks for posting!

I think the best way to get this going would be to use the syndicate that Article Manager 1 has built into it. Basically, send the webmasters of those other sites to your syndicate program and that will create a bit of JavaScript for them that will display a list of articles from your site on theirs.

Does that sound like it would work? To your syndicate, just go to the login page of your Article Manager like this:

www.yoursite.com/cgi-bin/artman/exec/admin.cgi

and change the admin to syndicate like this:

www.yoursite.com/cgi-bin/artman/exec/syndicate.cgi

Have a look and let me know what you think Smile.

WOW, that syndicate program is amazing! It is ALMOST what I am looking for: I just need to show the articles with another layout as the news will appear on an "frame" in the other sites. How can I do this?

Hi again

What I am thinking now is that you could use a link to your search engine to pull up that list of articles in a frame on other sites. That way, you would get the latest articles and be able to control the template specifically.

The thing to keep in mind here is that every time someone loads any of the sites that you have links to your search engine on, your server will have to take on the extra work of creating those pages. If these sites are all getting tones of hits then you might see a slow down on your site and all of theirs.

Let me know what you think Smile.

Hello Ross, what I don't understand is how it is going to show the article on a different template?

Hi there!

Using the search engine, you can specify different templates. :) If you want to get there from a search query page, add this after the <form> tag:

<input type="hidden" name="template" value="search/new_template_name.html">

Or, if you're linking directly to a search page, add this to the end of the query:

&template=search/new_template_name.html

...replacing the path & filename with the correct path & filename to the template you want to use instead. :)

I hope this helps!
