Adding data via ftp? Can't Post

I searched the forums but couldn't find an answer for this.

We are running a site with Article Manager 1, working perfectly (don't want to upgrade yet), and use it to manage as much of the site as possible.

We now need to add about 500 summaries to the existing ArtMan files to essentially create a searchable database for a project. Is it at all possible to create the database additions manually and upload them via ftp? 500 is just too many to do one at a time and publish.

I'm sure we'd have to download the current data, add this, then upload and overwrite. All this is after a full backup, of course.

Is this even worth considering, or should we look for a solution for this section outside of Article Manager?

If so, any ideas?

Thank you so much.

Hi matrix,

It's definitely possible -- it'd be an advanced option, but it's do-able if you'd like to give it a try.

What you can essentially do is import your database into Excel, modify the field that you need (we can provide you with a spreadsheet that lays out what each of the fields is for) then return it to the regular flatfile version and re-upload.

Making a backup would definitely be a key, though. :)

Thank you, Donna! I may give this a shot on a small scale first and see what happens. We'd so much rather use ArtMan for this with all the flexibility it provides. Then the data will be there for the day we upgrade to 2.0, too!

As usual, your support is excellent.

Thank you again.
