AM Article Missing! Can't Post
Hi, this afternoon I had login into the Admin panel to archive some articles and to do back ups of some of the files.

My client just notified me that one of his Featured Columns is missing - the title is there and the article is blank! I went back into the Admin and checked and sure enough his article there is completely blank.

How would this happen as it is still showing that the article is visible.

Is there a way to recover it assuming that my back up got it - but it is possible that my back up happened after the missing file.

What should I check for?

Hi, I just checked the data file that I backed up. In articles it looks like article 163 is all there. I opened it in a text editor and it appears the missing article was backed up. I am a little nervous as how to recover it as this file affects the whole article manager. How do I recover it and what happened to that file to make it blank.

Hi Patricia!

Good to hear from you. :)

Basically, to restore just that one record, you can copy & paste it from your backup data file to your existing data file. Each record is on a line of its own, so as long as you only work with the one line, it won't affect anything else.

That said -- keep a backup before mucking with any of the data files. :)

One thing you might want to be careful of... if you open an article and immediately save it without waiting for the WYSIWYG editor to load, you can lose data -- you must wait for the article to load before saving, or it will only save what is currently loaded.

Here is my problem, we had a problem with the .htaccess file being corrupted.

I reloaded Article Manager into the cgi-bin/artman/exec. I didn't know that I could leave the cgi-bin/artman/data files alone and I uploaded those files as well.

I reloaded out backup data files but, they are 3 days old. I have about 50 articles that I was wondering if I could get AM to recover or not. The articles are still showing on the server and can be found by typing the URL manually and I have a page with the links to them. I have saved the articles manually.

Do have I have to manually re-enter this articles are can they be recovered?

Any help would greatly be appreciated!!!

Hi Patricia.

Thanks for clearing that up Smile.

The thing we are going to run into here is that Article Manager works from its data files to your publish folder and not the other way round.

What that means is that while the article files are still there, they are more or less orphaned as they aren’t currently in your database. Basically, you’ll need to re-create your articles however, you can still use the old published files as a reference to copy and paste from.

One thing to watch out for is that when you start re-creating them, they will begin to over write each other if not done in the same order so what I would do is have a copy of those articles in a different folder or on your own computer.
