2000 articles....Are you there yet? Can't Post

Just wondering how many of you have reached the 2000 article mark and what issues you may have had.

Thanks!
Brian

I have had up to 3500 articles in the active database and although things slow up a little bit - nothing to bad.

Only problem I have is with backing up the news files - takes ages... Cant wait until the SQL version :D

BTW - if this double posts, it's coz I had to retype it. Something wrong with these forums?

You mean downloading all your published pages? You don't need to do that. If you had a crash, you wouldn't be able to restore from those anyways. Best things to backup are:

/data/ - all the data files
/uploads/ - all the uploaded files & images
/templates/ - all your custom templates

If you really want to backup your published files, I can whip up a script in a couple lines that would zip them up for you... So you only had to download one file.

Thanks for the offer dave - it's more a case of me being lazy and just wanting to select ALL when I do a site backup, and leave the FTP to it, rather than manually go through and select which files and folders to download. I guess it's only one directory I have to skip - I'll stop being so lazy!! Laugh

BTW - I know you guys get a lot of positive feedback on these forums, but the service really is outstanding. I purchased a shopping cart system for my site from another company, and I wanted to do a simple thing like list products in a category in alphabetical order (by default they listed by the order in which you input them). I got 2 months free "tech support", so I emailed them asking how to achieve this. They came back with "not currently supported, but we can modify your installation for you at a cost of an extra $50 (2 hours development time)"! Amazing, as I looked at the code a little more, and achieved exactly what I wanted by altering ONE line of code!

I think I've said it before on these forums - I wish I could buy all my software from you guys...

One other thing, if you've made any changes to your /exec/config.ini file you'll also want to make a back up of this file as well. :)
