/artman/publish directory required? Can't Post

Okay -- I am a brand new user. I read through all the forum discussions and didn't find an answer to this question. I also read that there are no stupid question ....

Do you have to use the /artman/publish directory structure? I would rather use www.gracefulbee.com/articles I assume this would work since you provide the option to specify a publish directory and publish URL on your option screen. However I want to understand the ramifications of this decision. Does this affect any of the templates, processes, etc.

Thanks for your help.

Welcome aboard!

If you change the publish URL and publish DIR, you're pretty much good to go. Just click "Re-publish All" after you change the paths and the program will re-create all the files in the new directory and update all the links to point to the right place.

PS: My wife is a fan of your site! : )

No, you can publish into a directory of your choice. Here is the steps:

1. Log in to Article Manager and go to the Setup Options. Select the Server tab.

2. In the Directories and URLs section, modify the Publish Dir and the Publish URL with the new publish directory path and URL. Click save.

3. Click the Publish All button to publish all the indexes and articles into the new location.

Couple of points to keep in mind:
- make sure there is no existing files in the new publish directory that might get overwritten by Article Manager.
- after you publish into a new directory, the files that were previously published in /artman/publish will still remain. Since they will no longer be updated in that area, if you want to remove them, connect to your site via FTP and delete the old files.

I hope that helps :) We are here to help so let us know if you have any other questions.
