Ross, I've not been able to attempt your suggestion just yet, but if it performs as I imagine it might, the category listing will still contain a redundant link to its own corresponding category (e.g, a "Letters" link on the "Letters" page), and this, unfortunately, is what I was trying to avoid. Also, with the way the site is meant to be arranged, including other contrary parent categories in the listing would probably just serve to confuse my visitors (see below):
As mentioned in one of my previous posts, each category page is intended to be arranged into four "quadrants". Quadrant 1 would house the category list we've been talking about in this thread (and as demo'd here).
This image gives a closer look at the contents of "Quadrant 1". The left navigational column stretches from top-to-bottom of the page, and is appended to the left of the four quadrants mentioned earlier. I opted to hard-code a more permanent navigational column on the left side, (since I don't intend Article Manager to manage the entire site). Quadrant 1 then would serve as aan AM-generated context-sensitive navigational tool users may click on to progress deeper into the site. I've done searches through these forums to see if there's a way to produce the desired effect of removing redundant or unnecessary AM-generated category links, but it seems the only thing to do at this point is just hardcode the navigational links on all index templates myself. I understand by doing this, I'll lose Article Manager's dynamic category link managing ability, but it is necessary that they be arranged this way. In any case, I'll let you know how it works out -- I actually have a separate problem I wish to present later (this one is more integral to AM's ability to make it easy to manage thousands of articles across numerous categories and subcategories); if that can be resolved, I'll be able to stay with Article Manager for my content management needs! Ross, thanks again for your support!
