Re: [agoldstraw] Tearing my hair out - PLEASE help! [In reply to] Can't Post

Aidan,

We've actually seen this problem a couple times (but still very rarely) with Windows servers. Depending on the permissions and the version of Windows sometimes Windows or IIS will keep a lock on a file longer than we'd like. I know when we had NT we'd have problems sometimes just updating static web pages as IIS would lock or cache them with certain server configurations.

If you want to send me a message with all your server details and what we did previously I can take a look and see what we can do to fix you up. It seems to be a fairly uncommon problem, so perhaps it's something to do with the configuration of the box. My email is dave@interactivetools.com.

We can set up some test scripts to try and reproduce the problem and then maybe try some different configurations.

If anybody else has had a similar problem (sometimes can't update files on a windows server) with Artman or any other script or web program, please feel free to post! :)

Re: [Dave] Tearing my hair out - PLEASE help! [In reply to] Can't Post

Hello

We am considering the purchase of a second copy of A.M. this time to run our main site www.Belize.com

I wonder if this issue has been resolved. We have about 300 pages but we are doing a re-write/re-design to take us to 500+ pages. Our stats per month: transfer 8,526,472 KB, 150,000+ pages views, transfer 1,172,414 files, 2,064,537 hits. This volume should increase when we start promoting the site.

I am also looking at a custom solution based on MySQL/PHP.

Best wishes

I never heard back on that issue, so I would assume it was, but I'm not sure. It is an issue with Windows though, not the software, and we've had very few reports of it.

I believe it's related to IIS (the Microsoft's Web Server) locking the files and not releasing them or perhaps the filesystem. If anyone runs into this problem or anything else like it please do let us know and we'll figure out what's wrong and get to the bottom of it for you.

Dave,

Just to let you know, as we're quite close to moving the software over to Apache anyway we've decided to live with it rather than tinker.
