Re: [ccunet] goforum and gforum from gosammer threads [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi ccunet,

I just recently trying using the last version of goforum with gforum. When you would click "Discuss this story", it would post on the forum. However, the second time you would click on "Discuss this story" it would go to a page not found page. For some reason it would insert a ";" in the file path. I was pulling my hair out for days to trying to figure it out. Unfortunately, IT won't give help on goforum as it is unsupported. I went to using another forum and it works like a dream.

Hi ccunet,

Thanks for your post. :)

Since GoForum is an unsupported add-on, we're not able to offer support on it. The only thing we can guarantee is that GoForum worked with the version of the forum that was most recent when that forum was added. If you're having troubles, I suspect that the forum may have been updated to be incompatible with GoForum.

The best solution is to either use an older version of your forum, or try a different forum software.

I hope this helps. :)

Donna,

I realize it is unsupported. I was checking to see if others a similar experience. Is there a compatibility file anywhere so I can see the last version was compatible to?

Hi ccunet :)

Actually, the programmer who originally added most of the forums to GoForum didn't document the version that he was adding in, so unfortunately we don't have a compatability file.

Royce, which forum did you go to? I'm looking for one that is compatible.

Hi ThomasK,

I started using YABBSE and goforum worked wonderfully. I decided to do an experiment and UPGRADE from YABBSE to the Simple Machines forum (www.simplemachines.org). The upgrade was incredibly painless and quick.

Best Regards,
Royce

Wow, the current SimpleMachines works? I'm getting it now. Thanks for the quick reply, Royce. You have saved me further headache.

Re: [Royce] goforum and gforum from gosammer threads [In reply to] Can't Post

Royce, one question. On the upgrade, did you have to change the configuration settings to read simplemachines instead of yabbse? Since I am starting from scratch and loading GoForum, it references yabbse:

[yabbse]
forum_url = 'http://www.yabbse.org/community' # forum script directory
forum_login = 1 # login required? 1 = yes, 0 = no
forum_user = '' # forum user with post access
forum_pass = '' # password for user
forum_num = 1 # post to this forum number by default

should it read:

[yabbse]
forum_url = 'http://www.simplemachines.org/' # forum script directory
forum_login = 1 # login required? 1 = yes, 0 = no
forum_user = '' # forum user with post access
forum_pass = '' # password for user
forum_num = 1 # post to this forum number by default

I don't know how you went about the upgrade, so forgive if the question is off base.

Hi Thomask,

No, you do not have to change the configuration at all. If you already have YABBSE installed, you simply upgrade to Simplemachines. (Instructions are in the Simple machines forums). I know, I know...it sounds too simple...but really that's all.

Best regards,

Royce

Re: [Royce] goforum and gforum from gosammer threads [In reply to] Can't Post

Royce,

Sorry to bother you again, but you might be one of my only chances to get this thing going since IT doesn't not support GOForum.

I did not have YABBSE before so I am trying to start with Simple Machines (SMF 1.0 Beta 5 Public). I have my forum up and ready:

http://www.motorcyclesearchengine.com/Community/

I have tried to set up GoForum with SM and it is not working. My thought was that the name was not important but the parameters were. If you click on a link from my articles you get an error page:

http://www.motorcyclesearchengine.com/Articles/index.shtml

Do you think I should go back and install the old YABBSE and then upgrade?

I probably will have to get IT to install this for me so I can be sure. But I just feel like I'm missing one little thing. If you have any ideas, I would appreciate it.

Hi ThomasK,

You are correct. I would recommend first installing YABBSE, and afterwards do the upgrade to Simple Machines. It should work as advertised then.

Best Regards,
Royce

Re: [Royce] goforum and gforum from gosammer threads [In reply to] Can't Post

Royce, my last request, I promise. Next I'm off to pay someone. I have laid out my installation setup here:

http://www.interactivetools.com/iforum/Products_C2/Article_Manager_Add-ons_F15/GoForum_error_-_can_not_find_goforum.config.cgi_P31601/

Would you mind reading over what I did to see if it matches what you did. I set of YABBSE, as well, but it gave me the same error.

Thanks

Thomas
