I am currently setting up a site that uses Article Manager to post news. I was recently asked if it was possible to run a blog using AM for certain events. The easiest way would be to just create an article and then edit it periodically throughout the day and have the writer include the time and other info before each entry so that it mimics a blog. But there has to be a better way.

I was thinking that the goforum add-on might be a solution. If I could set up a page to be a forum then people could view the entries and the writers could log into the page and make period entries.

I was wondering if any has tried anything like this before? Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks for posting.

It would certainly be very easy to have a blog "section" managed through Article Manager and still have other categories devoted to news or articles. The blog would be set up as a separate category with different templates, so you could show a big list of entries blog-style. Although Article Manager doesn't have a comments feature (a popular aspect of some blogs), a user has posted a great comments plug-in in our forum.

Article Manager doesn't have a mechanism for bringing in RSS feeds, but there is a well-documented process for setting up Article Manager to publish RSS.

So you could in effect run something 'blogish' if you wanted to.

The lack of a "comments" feature within article manager is a big drawback because this is a very important feature when creating any type of blog. I looked at the add-on script and from what I have read from others, there appears to be issues with it.

The only real solution here is for interactivetools to add a comment script to Article Manager. This would greatly enhance the product and open up a whole new market for them. Blogging is hot and in-demand. If Article Manager did indeed have the ability to post "comments" on articles, it would be make it a great product to easily create web blogs.

Unfortunately from what I understand, this feature will not be available in the next release so I am having to look for other products to build our web blog website. Hope they change their mind and surprise us with it added to the next release. Blush
