Creating a sitemap for Google Sitemaps... addl Can't Post
Hey Cliff
Great idea.

We've used publishcron for some time, so
we're very familar with that.

We loaded your xml template and ran publishcron,
and we're seeing this error:

Quote
XML Parsing Error: junk after document element
Location: http://www.oursite.com/sitemap.xml
Line Number 2, Column 1:Parse error: parse error in /usr/u/home/g/oursite/public_html/artman/publish/temp_1137709819.php on line 1
Obviously, the template is launching.

Have you released a new template?
(Were there errors in the old template?)

BTW the file referenced above (temp_1137709819.php) does not exist.

I'm not sure why that message would show up, so could you send me an email so I can take a closer look at your setup.

Hi I am actually getting the same kind of error when i try to run the publish cron script

Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING in /hsphere/local/home/irishmot/irishmotoring.ie/cms/publish/temp_1153822798.php on line 1

Could you tell me why this is? Would it be anything got to do with the file extensions. All my files are php?

It sounds like something in the outputted file is choking a bit, but without seeing the actual file it's trying to create, I can't see what exactly the problem would be. Most likely, there's a syntax error in your template.

There are a couple of ways that we can figure out what's going on... first, you could send us a copy of the template you're using to create this file. Alternately, you can fill out a support request and have us pop in and take a look directly to see what's being created. If you'd like to do this, you can fill in the support request form here:

Hi Donna

I'm just using a basic xml template. See attached. I've tried this on another site and it works fine when the pages are just .shtml files.

Would it be that the pages are php? -that's why it's causing an error?

Hi Lorraine,

Yep, you're right -- it's definitely the PHP that's causing this. Because XML files start with <? -- same as PHP calls -- it's getting a bit confused when it tries to process it.

So, what you can do is simply remove the first line of the template, the one that says this:

Code
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

It's not going to validate perfectly, but it should still work. Give that a try and let me know. :)

Hi

The published file is just a list of url's one after another.. It doesn't recognise it as an xml file. Is there a way i can include the header <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> in the published file to parse it as an xml?

An easy solution would be:

Setup Options --> General --> Resolove Template Includes.

Publish all and you won't have a problem with the <? portion that confuses it with PHP. Of course you would need to change over existing SSI's to template includes.
