Trying to Use RSS Mod Posted on Forum Can't Post

Post by Tim Quinlan reposted. Original post is unavailable due to server issues required the forum database to be restored.

I have been messing with the instructions provided in this forum as well as in the add-on section to produce an RSS feed. I am able to set up the file "rss.xml" and store it in the templates/index directory and have gone so far as to change its permissions to 777.

When I try to access it either through the validator that was published or just from the browser directly, I receive an "The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request."

I then go to the error log on my site to see what the error might be and find the following:
[error] File does not exist: /home/httpd/vhosts/insidemagic.com/httpdocs/rss.xml

File does not exist:
/home/httpd/vhosts/insidemagic.com/httpdocs/favicon.ico

File does not exist: /home/httpd/vhosts/insidemagic.com/httpdocs/insidemagic

Premature end of script headers: rss.xml

File does not exist: /home/httpd/vhosts/insidemagic.com/httpdocs/favicon.ico

File does not exist: /home/httpd/vhosts/insidemagic.com/httpdocs/insidemagic

Because I am not bright, I do not know if all of those errors are related to the attempt to raise the RSS feed. The errors were produced by trying the url: http://insidemagic.com/rss.xml or http://insidemagic.com/cgi-bin/artman/templates/rss.xml

Any help anyone can provided will be graciously accepted. Please assume I have a brain like a turnip and explain in excrutiating detail how to fix it.

Thank you every one.

Hey Tim,

Good to hear from you again.

I think that the problem may be related to storing the file rss.xml in the templates/index directory.

Most servers are not setup to display images or documents from the cgi-bin so I think that is your problem spot. Try changing the publish path for that document so that it goes into the web root of your site instead and I think that you will get the results that you are looking for.

Let me know how that goes Smile

Tim,

Have you got it to working yet? It sounds like a simple tweak that Cliff suggested should work.

If not you may want to consult with your web host and make sure that .xml is a feature supported by your server.

If you have done all the above and it still doesn't work let me know.

Michael
